Physical illness = bad play?

First of all, thanks to the site for everything it's done for me.

I want to start playing soon, but I have this awful cold + headache + sore throat + stomachache etc etc. and don't know if I can play optimally while sick. I'm starting to do regular work slower, and it takes me longer to do mundane tasks, starting last week.

My question is whether, from experience or science, a physical illness can affect your overall play.

PS: As a note, I'm really new to short stack strategy and was going to try this out. I personally feel that it's going to be more mentally straining trying to learn a new system.

      Hi mikeymoo!

Welcome at PokerStrategy! I hope you enjoy it here. Concerning your question: I think that illness influences your game like tiredness and alcohol do: negatively! So I recommend you to take a break from poker and to get well soon. You should only play if you feel fine.

      Good luck at the tables!
