What's so special abuot checking behind with a straight if there's a flush on the board ?
He knows if he bets, he only gets called by better hands :)

Not only a flush but a paired board as well. And his turn check says either a real monster or a draw and most of the draws got there on the river. Think of how many hands he would do this with and call a river bet and now think of the ones that Daniel beats. A river bet would be really bad here.

there was also a high possibility for an inferior straight here...

you must realize that this is on a 3-handed table...

Ok, it's three handed, but Negreanu obviously felt checking behind for pot control was the best thing to do. And why bet with nut straight on a paired board and flush board, against an opponent who on the flop showed odds were high he was on some draw or had a 9.

A raise would only get called by a better hand, a lower straight wouldn't call so even 3-handed, it would be EV- to bet. I wouldn't have either.
