      I think it's fine the way you played it.

      At slightly higher stakes I'd be a bit puzzled because really once the board turns a 4-straight people become scared with their overpairs and need an 8 to bomb it like he did and it's damn hard for him to have an 8. Yet they're sometimes not good enough to recognize they shouldn't bluff at that card when they have nothing.

      At these stakes however, people usually aren't good enough to even consider not betting again with an overpair, so reading too much into it likely won't help.
