Been playing a few mtt's recently and getting fairly similar results...for example my last one was a 1650 player $24 NL Holdem mtt on full tilt. i busted out in 56th making 60 bucks or so but when you get that deep i was really hoping for final table. i ended up with 8 bbs, had 10/3 on the button, had it folded to me and pushed trying t osteal the blinds...to which i was called and beaten. i had absolutly no cards before this point so got low that way, and i dont like pushing with nothing and feeling like ive thrown my tournament away. any advice?

Well I wouldn't be trying to blind steal with 8bb with trash :p

But I would also like a bit of advice, i'm primarily a cash game player, but do like to dabble in a few MTTs, problem is I seem to be a min-cash expert. I always find myself on the bubble of a tournament shortstacked, playing like a nit until that bubble bursts just so I can cash. Then when I do I vainly attempt to build up a stack and usually run into a better hand :D I don't want to be a min-casher :(

You must of had something half decent to push all in with. Why did you wait until only 8 BB. I like pushing closer to the 30 BB. If you double up 8 BB you are still short stacked !
Your 10 3 shove was fine in that position its just you should of shoved way before that.

      lol

@Wriggers - when is bubble coming you should get more aggressive to make some chips, but some times it will be finishing at the bubble, but no problem.. when you will make it deep, it will pay you off big time.

While that T3 push might be -EV, it is not a large mistake. A lot of time it can also be correct when blinds play too tight (most of players call too tight).

I know the feeling, so close yet so far. There is only one piece of advice I can give. Play. Then play more. Mtt variance and swings are huge, if you are winning player you will eventually win. Of course the important thing is to be a winning player.

i seem to run deep alot of the time so i feel like the first half of my game is spot on....but when i get deep and get no cards i have the problem. when im sitting with 30bbs and i have k10 facing an raise before me for example.....if i push and get called by a good hand i think why the hell did i do that?similarly then if i fold and just keep gettig antied and blinded away i think fcuk it i shuldve just shoved and gambled it up!guess il have to just start being more aggressive at this point of mtts and really go for the win!

I think Anssi hit it on the head with play more of them. You can't expect to ship a tournament within one of your first attempts.

One thing I do to continue to encourage myself is live by a quite of "give yourself a shot" If I bust before the final table I put myself in great position for a big score just fell short. It happens and you just fire up some more. In the long run you'll be profitable if you are a winning player so you just need to put in the volume.

yeah i think being more agresive and really aiming for first is the way to go....i played a live tournament a cuple of nights ago, a £30 buy in (45 dollars roughly), 67 players and finished 3rd...which got me £260...it was 700 for 1st which i just missed out on.....with 3 left myself (BB) and BTN had about 85% of the chips in play and had an all in pre flop with me holding AK and villain with 77 which held up!so losing that flip cost me about £400 which kinda sucked but more than happy with my performance!

busted out in 50th in the previously mentioned tourny making a stupid shove with 78 suited from the CO with abt 15 bb's. very much regretted it after the tournament. i played a $24 rush tournament last night with a field of 250 players and finished 11th.....seriously misplayed QQ which cost me half my stack with only 11 players left...for some reason my brain failed and i didnt c bet the flop and let the fishy BB hit runner runner straight...but was my bad. got 95 bucks or so for that but i should have been finishing in the top few there and cashing alot more so i was very disapointed. i played another live tournament on sunday night with a field of 54 players...(£40 buy in....so 60 bucks or so) and made the final 3 and took a deal for for £440 each which was another good result because i took a few sick beats throughout and held on well. all in all a pretty good week, my tournament cashes have amounted to just over $2000 which was very much needed!ive only had 4 tourneys i havent cashed so pretty nicely in the profit!still feel like i could have done alot better and 1 or 2 mistakes wiped away from that and i could have been cashing big but hey still going pretty deep regularly so hopefully the big pay day wil come....just gonna keep grinding!
