      =====

10.03.09 - In the small unknownish country of Estonia, another random fish wakes up in the morning and
totally out of the blue, feels the need to learn poker even though he
didn't give a shit about it ever before when all his schoolmates
used to play it during lunch breaks.

So not even getting out of his bed, he instagrabs his laptop and
logs on to a site he used to sportsbet on from time to time and found
      its primitive poker school page.

He quickly learned what a full house and four of a kind was, and
besides that, he knew only one thing - that he wanted to get them ASAP ! :f_cool:

He had learnt poker in 10 minutes and it was time for step 2 ==>
get out of bed, get dressed and call a friend that has been playing for years.

"Yoo mate, funniest thing happened today, I just felt a sudden urge and interest towards poker this morning,
having felt no interest towards card games prior whatsoever ... anyway, when's your next homegame?"

      Step 2 complete.

      Step 3 = pwn fish :f_cool:

He came (to the homegame not in my palm or on tittaehs, so all of you ihufas and NightFrostas etc don't get confused :f_biggrin: ),
he saw and he mofockin conquered.

No fear + no knowledge + pure psychological mindfuck + fish luck = +7bi :f_cool:

He was hooked. Poker had a new disciple.

      INTERLUDE
      ========

He created his first pokahh account @Microgaming.
Even though he really thought he completely pwned the home cg, he still acknowledged the fact
that in the "real world" he was still a fish that needed to learn and evolve a lot -
there are no "free lunches" in this world and big $$$ can't possibly come with a 10 minute learning curve,
otherwise everybody would be doing it.

So his goal was simple = make money with poker without depositing a single cent of his own $$,
since beginners are bound to lose some or even a lot of moniez in the process of learning,
he I decided to start with freerolls and neeever eever use his own moniez.

He started off pretty well in the freerolling world, nurturing his
painfully small BR cent by cent.

      22.05.09 - Google + "Poker strategy" = PokerStrategy.com
      Woah = strategy + free moniez = AMAZING :f_biggrin: :f_love: :f_thumbsup:

Free $50 = obv NL50 good to go = bustooo = BRM lesson learned.
Thank you for the free $50 lesson PS.com - now off to the strategy articles :f_biggrin:

Back to his tiny Microgaming roll which he had managed properly all along
since it took him a loot of work to get it and you appreciate things a lot more when you work hard to get 'em.

Okay, enough of the fairytale - this is starting to become a tl;dr so I'll keep rest of the boring stuff short.

After freerolls and cashing out from Microgaming, deposited about $20 to Everest, grinded it up to $70 with Fixed Limit ...

Then tried NL SSS to unlock my bonuses since FL wasn't unlocking much even though game wise I was doing good at it.

SSS was a disaster ... lost a big chunk of my roll, but survived thanks to the bonus that I did manage to unlock.

Cash out again and deposit on FT and started trying SnGs.
This is when I exploded my roll.

      December 2009 - $100 roll
      February 2010 - $900 roll

SnG's are getting too boring and same old same old stuff ...
Time to make the switch to NL BSS and stay there for good hopefully.

And I do - my roll swings between $300-900 constantly and I swing between NL10 and NL25 as a result of = leaks + runbad + cashing out

08.10.10 - TeamTwiceT kicks off, I try to suck in every bit of knowledge I can from all the great players that I'm surrounded by and I plug many leaks.

      Started with a $550 roll.

December 2010 - $1,2k roll even after a decent amount of runbad,
so things are still obv better than ever before and I finally feel that I'm moving in the right direction.

The thing that I didn't mention about myself before was that I'm ...
Well like Phil Galfond said about himself, a lazy underachieving person in the sense that -
when I don't like/enjoy what I do, then I do really poorly and am totally miserable, can't do it ...

BUT, when I do smth I feel really passionate about and interested,
I dive in as deep as I can and conquer the shit out of it, no stopping, no quitting.

Not exactly in Galfond's words but smth like that :f_biggrin:
So I was miserable so far, coz I had no intentions of doing anything other
than the things that I love in my life, BUT I did go to uni to study finance as a backup until I find my calling.

I found it and then I "deleted" everything else ... yes, you might be thinking "pretty stupid to assume that you're
going to be a pokahhsupahstaar like every other poker player thinks he's gonna be and drop out of school and abandon all else".

Yeah, but guess what, I don't care ... cause backup or no backup, I would still be a miserable depressed fuck all the same,
whether I was broke and living in a cardboard box or living in a decent place and having all that I need with the price of having to
work a job or do some shit that I don't care about AT ALL.

So it was kind of an easy decision for me in that sense - I found what I was looking for,
so I stopped wasting my life and time with the "stupid backups" etc ...

Ofc my parents basically disowned me and it has been a really rough tough road so far
having no real $$$ to support myself so far and all the social pressures that you naturally get when you
try to walk down a path that only very few people do in comparison to the whole society ...

But despite the hardships, I feel like it was the best decision I ever made.
Coz I do it for myself, I live for myself. No regrets, no quittiny.

I believe I can do anything and everything I put my mind to - so do or die !!

      PRESENT
      ======

Huh, got a little carried away there ... anyways, now that the 20 people group of TTT kinda dissolved
coz TT is very busy with his world domination plans, he decided to coach only a select few ...
And I was lucky enough to fit into that picture, hence me starting this blog finally that I have been
wanting to start for a long time but haven't gotten around to.

I felt like I'm finally moving in the right direction and this was the perfect time to create this.

So, hopefully I will be able to offer you good folks of PS a worthwhile read as a blogvirgin ... see how this goes :s_cool:

      2010

Gonna take a HUGE look back @2010 and even though this might be a bit of bore for the "veterans",
I think for some of the beginners out there who might stumble across this blog and are just experiencing
their first downers or realizing for the first time that they're not natural born superstars who'll be
flying through the limits and thinking "daamn, I must be the unluckiest player ever and online is rigggged,
oh whyyyy did they have to doomswitch me for life?"

Been there, done that ... starting out is the hardest thing, whatever you might be trying out for the first time ...
It might and most likely will take a shitload of time to succeed, but if you're willing to learn/work and
just don't have quit in you, things are gonna start going your way eventually ;)

(yeah, standard cliche stuff, but it's a cliche for a reason)

Anyway, here goes ... the whole story of 2010.

      JANUARY

Finally hit $100 roll playing $1-2 SnG's and decided to dive into cash games.
Hit off really sexy as you can see from the graph, solid run @NL2 FR and
immediately climbed to NL10 from there as I felt real comfortable (played @Everest then and they didn't have NL5 tables)

Also kept playing SnG and doubled my roll with 101 SnG's + 10k hands of CG plus bonuses ... sweeeetahh :f_cool: :f_biggrin:

Created this donk thread and obv whined like a mofo when the bad side of variance hit me from time to time :f_biggrin:

      Running Godly

      Graphs:

      FEBRUARY

So continued playing NL10 FR + $1-2 SnGs ... yet another great month
      for a microfish like myself.

So far, so good, finally I'm taking off :f_biggrin:

      Graphs:

      MARCH

I guess this is when things finally get a tad bit more "interesting"
I start off with NL10, all goes okayish I feel I'm killing it ... and make the move to NL25 ...
Oh boy, ooh boy ... Obv I'm not crushing NL25 but I also hit a genuine downswing, so I'm thinking
that I'm not to blame coz I run like shit ... so I lose a huuge chunk of my roll and create the following donk thread:

      Move up = Instaunrealshitstorm

      APRIL

I keep on running on the bad side of variance and start worrying about
my roll withering away that I worked so hard on and start thinking
in the right direction, somewhat at least ... (and started another donk thread)

      Worried 'bout My Roll

Got sick of FR coz it's a nitfest and I want real action ...
And having read about "FR tables will be harder and harder to find
as you move up, and eventually, SH is where it's at"

I decided to make the transition now, to get smth new going on from scratch.

So I needed to improve my game and drop multitabling for a while, I start 2 tabling to really focus.

End up having yet another crap month, but hey, new variant of the game
and I'm really trying to improve.

And still run bad as well ... some runbad "eyecandy" here:

On the plus side, still won some $$ with SnGs and RB+bonuses

      MAY

      More of the same ...

And yet another donk thread about how I tilt:
Intense winning + intense losing = MEGATILT

      Hit my first Royal

      JUNE

Finally I start winning again @NL2-10 SH

And after making like 6 stacks in a very short time, I discover the
importance of mindset and how much mine fails in yet another donk thread:

From Downer To Heater = Mindset Fail

      JULY

Yet another nice month playing NL2-10 (mostly NL10)
and I start thinking about attacking NL25.

      AUGUST

      Playing NL10-25 ... NL25 = Swingaments
No sample obv, but at least this time I'm BEish not losing a ton.

      SEPTEMBER

:f_cry: back to the same old same old ...
      Lost 20 stacks @NL10 and 5@NL25

Back to the drawing board, this time I suspect that I had become
too comfortable and loosened up my game gradually to the
point where it was so loose that I didn't know how to play that kind of
      style profitably.

Was playing 27/20 ... obv a huuuge cap between VP and PFR ...
was leaking a ton of money by taking a "cheap" look with all sorts of
garbage from the blinds etc etc.

And now smth for you beginners out there to remember:

My BIGGEST leak that probably cost me soo much moniez and which I'm sure a lot of players
are familiar with = "Shit, I know that I'm basically always beat here ...
But he MIGHT be bluffing and it's SOOO awesome to bluffcatch" ...
Click ... "FUCK I KNEW IT, WHY DID I CALL FFS?!" :f_biggrin:

      So the lesson was:
Study study study // play play play
You gain experience => experience becomes instinct
and when your instinct tell you to fold, just fold coz 99% of the time
micro stakes players aren't pulling off huge bluffs and neither should you.

This was my 2nd biggest leak ... I would try to pull off "advanced" bluffs
and had the FPS (fancy play syndrome) ... And I kept getting called by all sorts of shit and all I could do was :f_eek: :f_eek:
and moan "HOW THE FUCK DO YOU CALL WITH THAT?!?!"

They're all just massive calling stations ... Valuebet valuebet valuebet ONLY !! ( with rare situational exceptions ofc)

      SUMMARY
*FOLD button is your best friend !!
      *DON'T bluff !!

If you manage to learn these two rules of thumb and keep them in
mind while playing at the tables, you ARE going to make moniez @ micros.

      Period.

Hit 2nd Royal as well :f_cool:

      OCTOBER

Not much to say here, BEish = volume still sucks a bit though
Trying to work on my "work ethic" coz I'm a lazy bastard :f_biggrin:

      NOVEMBER

This month can be summed up with one word = TeamTwiceT
Since poker was all I got and all I intendend working on ...
I was willing to give it my all with this chance of a lifetime and
I learned sooo much from all the great players the joined the group.

Soaked it all up like a sponge, played more than even before, studied
more than ever before, attended all the coachings (95% at least :f_biggrin: ) and recorded every single one of them so I could go over & over them later when I needed to.

And hard work pays off ... I got results (even though I still wasn't satisfied with how much work I put into everything, coz I wanted to do so much more ... but I'm learning/evolving ... step by step ... other than that, it was a great month).

Played mostly NL10 with a very solid winrate and had a sneek peak of NL25 with BE results.

I made even a bit more than this, but that's not included on this graph since the TTT deal began on 8th of November and I created a brand new database for that, so this graph is missing the first week of hands.

Also beat aggrotard Simo in HU SnG :f_biggrin:

      DECEMBER

Finally hit $1000 roll for the first time after being so close at the start
of the year ... pretty pathetic but satisfying at the same moment.

And finally I'm moving in the right direction ...

Run wise had a bad month though, run cold even during coaching
sessions with TT, variance is the name of the game so ...

Hopefully will hit off with better results in January ...
still made some moniez though so can't complain.

Pwned NL10 haard, and BEish @NL25

HOLY SHIT that was a super TL;DR post right there ...
sick, can't believe I actually took the time to post all that crap :f_biggrin:
Hopefully it can somehow benefit somebody out there and give somekind of a "picture" of what to expect
when starting out and how to go about learning the game and from other's mistakes.

Phew, so that was 2010 ...
Didn't make a ton of moniez, but finally moving in the right direction
      and expect 2011 be 99999999x EPIC(er) :f_biggrin:

2011 plans/goals post to follow tomorrow, stay tuned.

Oh, and some final eyecandy ...
3rd Royal in less than 500k hands lifetime :f_biggrin:

Posting this a little later than promised, but since it's a fresh blog with
no real followers yet anyway, I guess I can get away with it :f_biggrin:

      Anyways, here goes ...

      2011

I usually set myself really high goals, which results in me not reaching
them and then feeling like a failure even though in actuality I did pretty
good in general and only "failed" in my mind coz the goals are super hard
and not that realistical given the timeframes etc etc.
(yes, I'm a perfectionist - good to get the job done, but very bad mentally/mindset wise).

So this time I'm actually going to set some pretty simplistic and achievable goals to not overpressurise myself.

      Only three general main goals:

      :spade: NL50 reg by April
      :spade: NL100 shots by June
      :spade: Follow my daily schedule

Can't say "should be easy enough" but I think realistic enough and not very hardcore.

Actually following my schedule will be the toughest/most important.
If I can manage to do it, that means I'll get in enough studytime/grinding etc etc
that goals #1 & #2 should be achieved "automatically" through achieving the 3rd goal.

Everything beyond that would be a bonus icing on the cake. :f_cool:

So I guess nothing really exciting for the readers here :f_biggrin:

Ofc there will be "microgoals" which I will be setting on a weekly/monthly basis.

      January Goals

      :club: 70 000 hands
      :club: 100h of sessions
      :club: 40h of studying
      (coachings/reviewing/reading/watching/listening)

      January Targets

 Beat NL25 for at least 6bb/100
      (70k hands + 6bb/100 = $1k = 46BI's for NL50 (not including rakeback))

So, I'm rather confident that with the help of TwiceT and Simo ...

"Solid" start to the month ... volume wise behind as well due to me trying to readjust to my new schedule - so been super tired and not wanting to grind while in that state - so been watching vids etc so far mostly.

Favorite hand of the day - I guess being pot commited really is just a myth !

      Grabbed by Holdem Manager
      NL Holdem $0.25(BB) Replayer
      SB ($29.01)
      Hero ($30.48)
      UTG ($25)
      UTG+1 ($99.02)
      CO ($28.97)
      BTN ($10.30)

      Dealt to Hero 3:spade: 3:heart:

UTG raises to $0.75, UTG+1 calls $0.75, fold, fold, SB calls $0.65, Hero calls $0.50

      FLOP ($3) 3:diamond: A:heart: 5:club:

SB checks, Hero bets $2.23, UTG raises to $6.50, UTG+1 folds, SB folds, Hero calls $4.27

      TURN ($16) 3:diamond: A:heart: 5:club: K:spade:

Hero checks, UTG bets $11, Hero raises to $22, UTG folds

      Hero shows 3:spade: 3:heart:

      Hero wins $36.10

Was thinking later though that ...
Shouldn't I be just calling on the turn if the pot is so big already and he has only $6 behind?
When I minraise him AI ... god knows what he's folding there after such a bet, but when the pot his huge on the river and I donk him AI ...
Would be a looot harder for him to fold ... he'd almost never fold, how could he ...

But when I c/minr ... that looks real strong instead of c/c ... he'll be more likely to put his remaining $6 in ... coz I didn't look THAT strong.

Hindsight 20-20 though, coz you never expect the guy to fold in that situation :f_biggrin:
