Is this an overplayed hand ?

Hand converted with online PokerStrategy.com hand converter:

      Play hand

      $0.02/$0.04 No-Limit Hold'em (8 handed)

      Known players:
      MP1:
      $4.96
      MP2 (Hero):
      $3.94
      MP3:
      $6.74
      CO:
      $3.82
      BU:
      $4.00
      SB:
      $4.64
      BB:
      $8.21
      UTG2:
      $4.06

      Preflop: Hero is MP2 with J, Q.
2 folds, Hero raises to $0.16, 3 folds, SB calls $0.14, BB folds.

      Flop: ($0.36) 7, 2, T (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $0.20, SB calls $0.20.

      Turn: ($0.76) 5 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $0.40, SB calls $0.40.

      River: ($1.56) 3 (2 players)
      SB checks, Hero checks.

      Final Pot: $1.56.
      Results follow:

      SB shows a pair of nines(9 9).
Hero shows high card queen(J Q).

SB wins with a pair of nines(9 9).

To justify the second barrel here, I wanted to have the possibility to check behind the river and I probably wouldn´t if I had checked the turn ...
Was this my or villains mistake ?

      Hello acceleration123,

Preflop: I don't like the loose raise that much actually, wouldn't really recommend playing such hands on NL4 and more often I see you playing such hands not that profitable. Just fold it from MP.

      As played
Postflop: Doesn't make sense to 2nd barrel there, when he Called you on flop then he is likely going to Call the turn also. Ain't that great 2nd barrel card, rather pick something like a bigger card as K or A.

      Best regards.

Uhm ... What should be my range to open-raise from MP then ? AT+, KQ+, 88+, or even tigher ?
