      the line I took, betting one quarter pot on the River was intended to get called by pocket pairs 4 4, 5 5, 7 7 and random ace high hands.

      if we bet, say, $7.5 we most likely only get called by Tx hands.

      More generally, how should we be going about working out whether we have a value bet in this spot?

      I think that valuebet on the river is too thin :D . Like u said u are not betting against wide range and flop was pretty dry so he wont even raise Tx, overpairs, 99 and ofc worser hands.

      If he doesn´t bet himself on the river then likely he doesn´t have Tx. I´d also bet river, but make it 5$. Sometimes I´m valuedowning myself Tx/99, but he can call me down with worse hands, mostly smaller pp-s and it is sometimes have valuebets in my range when players would mostly see that as bluffs
