I have been hanging around here for long enough so it’s time to give you the chance to follow my progress and to make a step towards more commitments on my side. I am not a blogger so here it is for the craic!

Before jumping into poker stuff I’ll introduce myself:

      Background

I’m a 27 years old French fellow and have been living in Dublin for the past 5 years. I’m an R&D engineer working for a small start up. We are working on new energy technologies. I have really enjoyed working for this company and that’s also how I discovered poker since we used to play from time to time after work with few beers in the conference room :D .

Generally speaking I love sports. When I don’t play Football I watch a good bit of it! Go on Marseille! I play badminton in a league and occasionally I play tennis, golf (big fish in these last two) ...oh I am just back from a skiing holiday...
I also used to play chess quite a lot in when I was young until I realized that there were other things worth experimenting in life :) . Still I managed to get over 2300 elo.
And last but not least I also quite like to play the national sport here: Guinness in the pub!

All right let’s stop with this boring introduction and let’s talk about poker:

      Poker

I have played poker for about 3 years and registered to PS 2 years ago. The more I play the more I love this game. Compared to chess that I play at a decent level I find it much more creative and dynamic. I also think that chess will give me a solid base (many similar skills in both) on which I will build my poker career.

I am playing cash games seriously only since July 2010, playing NL 25 SH. In September I moved up to NL50 and have played 60k hands since to be at 1 bb/100 win rate X( .

I haven’t played that much in January and I was more looking to understand a bit better why I am not winning more. And I believe I have somehow found out: I am not thinking enough in term of ranges. I do in fact but not always and this not always costs me money! I also find a bit difficult to muck my good hands from time to time (kind of related to the range thing).

I am pretty confident that I can beat this limit at a more decent rate if I am concentrated 100% on the game every single time I play and also think in ranges ranges ranges!!

      Short Term Plan:

      [] Play 15k hands a month (I play 4 tables at a time)
[] Register to DC or CR and watch 2, 3 videos a week. Btw which one is the best CR or DC?
[] Do not watch PT3 graph during session
[] Post hands in Hands Evaluation Forum (I do it on regular basis already so should be ok)

      Long Term Plan:

      Make it big!

      Interesting hand from today's session:

      iPoker - €0.50 NL - Holdem - 6 players
      Hand converted by PokerTracker 3

      CO: €43.75
      Hero (BTN): €106.14
      SB: €99.96
      BB: €56.82
      UTG: €57.72 From EP: VP:17/PR:17/CBet:64%/WTSD:28
      MP: €5.24

SB posts SB €0.25, BB posts BB €0.50

      Pre Flop: (€0.75) Hero has J:diamond: T:diamond:

UTG raises to €1.75, fold, fold, Hero calls €1.75, fold, fold

      Flop: (€4.25, 2 players) 3:diamond: 7:diamond: 9:spade:
UTG bets €3.00, Hero calls €3.00

      Turn: (€10.25, 2 players) T:club:
UTG bets €7.00, Hero raises to €18.00, UTG raises to €52.97, fold

      Villain is a NL100/200 player.

On the flop IP w GS + FD I call. When he bets turn I think he has overpair JJ+ or set. I thought I would make overpair fold here by raising and also have a decent equity if I get called. When he shoves he has set 100% I think.

I probably should have played passively on turn

I am getting pissed off with myself not thinking in ranges! Here is another example:

      iPoker - $0.50 NL - Holdem - 5 players
      Hand converted by PokerTracker 3

      Hero (SB): $104.67
      BB: $52.05
      UTG: $75.24
      CO: $51.74
      BTN: $148.26

Hero posts SB $0.25, BB posts BB $0.50

      Pre Flop: ($0.75) Hero has 6:heart: 6:spade:

UTG raises to $1.50, fold, fold, Hero calls $1.25, fold

      Flop: ($3.50, 2 players) Q:diamond: 6:club: J:spade:
Hero checks, UTG bets $3.00, Hero raises to $8.00, UTG calls $5.00

      Turn: ($19.50, 2 players) 8:spade:
Hero bets $14.00, UTG raises to $34.50, Hero calls $20.50

      River: ($88.50, 2 players) T:club:
Hero checks, UTG bets $31.24, Hero calls $31.24

Villain is VP:15/PR:10 kind of nit.

What does he have when he raises the turn? JJ or QQ 100%. If I had thought for 3 secs about his range I would have sparred 100bb.

Was off work today so I managed to put some nice volume. about 1400 hands.

I started the day by spewing 120 bb, couldnt fold an overpair like a donk :( .

went ok overall but I am realizing that I go for thin value bets sometimes on river etc...and besides I spew 120bb! such a fish!

btw how do I make the link in my signature a real link?

      Sunday update:

For the first time in a while I had to stop playing because I really felt I was tilting. And my blog is the perfect place to share it. So here it is:

Below is my graph from yesterday and I have a 3BI's stop loss rule where I need to take a break and assess wether I am able to keep playing which wasn't the case yesterday despite the short session (happened to me only on few occasions).

Below are the main hands of the session by chronological order.

Most of them happened on a pretty aggro table. I had position on a fish (2nd seat on my right) but the 2 on my left were aggro, 3B my iso raises etc.

fold, MP calls €0.50, fold, Hero raises to €2.50, fold, fold, MP calls €2.00

      River: (€37.75, 2 players) 9:heart:

Despite his VP and PR stats he is somehow a bit aggro. So folding on flop or turn looked weak to me and I wanted to call him down especially with his smallish bets until he pot bet river. I wonder if I should still call that river bet

He had 3B me quite a lot with BTN guy . I started adjusting by 4B light after this hand(3 times that all worked out).

      I should have 4B pre.
Since he is aggro I decided to call him down 3 streets because he can be drawing and the J on river is a good card.

I flat pre because I thought that CO or BU would 3B 100%. But not this time...
I don't 3b flop because his CBet looks strong into 4 so I think I would iso myself against better hands.

#1 looks like he's trying to induce on early streets, well played imo
#2 Here would like to know his 3b % specifically from SB/blinds vs a steal, cause 8% in general isn't out of line, pretty much value range and it's a really dry flop, so doubt he's barreling off with overcards there too often.
      #3 b/f without Q  / b/c with the Q

#6 hit a miracle, nothin u can do there

Ye in that case he isn't 3b bluffing almost at all, moostly pure value range

I mean, all you beat is 22/55/66 and A-high, which most likely doesn't 3 barrel on that board, and even if he did, t here are still way more hands that beat you in his overall range.

PM if you interested in some sweat sessions. Winning at 30bb/100 at 100nl.

I find 50nl alot tougher to beat than 100nl btw, it's so nitty, fish with 10$ limping buttons etc. Take an aggresive stance to your BR and move up maybe?
