      He was a very loose player and I'm wondering if it would be better to call on the river.

      Hello dany2391,

      Looseness doesn't mean that he is also aggressive. More often that he is calling light but ain't raising with bad hands. And there on river you are likely beat. You might as well sometimes even Check/Fold the river for the reason that he wont bet anyways there with a lot worse and also there aren't that many hands which may Call you. So just Bet/Fold on river as you did.
