...Just finished Poker - the Real Deal by Phil Gordon

One of the key things to come out of the book was how to deal with bad beats. The advice was that if you were suffering with bad beats it is because you are making the correct decisions and playing the correct way - your opponent was a lucky bastard, but over time if he keeps making the wrong decisions, he will lose, and if you keep making the right decisions you will win.

So I sat down this morning and in the first 4 SNGs - in fact in the first 4 all-in situations I had my opponents dominated and they hit:

      a 2 outer i.e QQ v JJ, J on river
      a 2 outer
      a 2 outer
      a 3 outer 1.e. AK v AQ, Q on river

Well not to worry - right decision, wrong outcome.

Of the next 10 all in situations.....

I was dominated in 4 and dominated in 5

      Me
      a 3 outer - miss
      a 3 outer - miss
      a 3 outer - miss
      a 3 outer - miss

      and missed a 13 outer

      Them
      a 3 outer - hit
      a 3 outer - hit
a 4 outer - hit - AJ v QT fl QT, turn K, Villain goes all-in, Q on the river
      a 2 outer - hit
      a 4 outer - hit - KK fl AK v JT, Q on river

I understand the logic but it still does get incredibly frustrating X(

      Cheers,

      Jass

woooow... you reallly think to much about the bad beats...

I should write a book for you

"Brush the bad beat off as soon as possible and stop thinking about it. You wont profit at all from documenting all your bad beats and it'll only have bad psychological affects on you... When we say you'll profit off of bad plays on the long run we are not talking about 10 games.. we are talking about >1k games..

      I know the logic.......
And I tend not to worry to much about bad beats but they were on my mind having just read that book.....
But I don't obsess, although an hour later I wasn't exactly laughing when my nut flush ran into quads on the river!!

      Just letting off steam :D

If your going to be a succesful poker player u must accept bad beats and move on and dont care about them, focus on improving and care about where u played bad and improve there isntead of posting stuff that is totally out of ur controll.

I dont see the point of these threads.. we all know poker has a lot of luck involved why not just accept it and move on?
