      I checked on the turn because I was afraid of hands like AQ, AJ, 99, 88, 55 while there are not so many worse hands (A7, A6, A4-) he would call with.

      Hello jockel80,

      The only idea of Checking the turn is to induce him to Bet with some hands which might be even weaker, although against that kind of station I wouldn't even mind to bet there. But as played rather bet the river yourself, he likely is just going to Check behind with worse pairs while he could easily still Call with them against our bet.
