ok, so I don't know much about this, but is playing poker from money or even living from it is sin or any other way against religion?

I am Catholic but I would like to know about all of the religious and so.

Poker is fun, so it's probably a sin too. However, I think it's ok for those of the Jedi persuasion. Us atheists are too busy for such moral niceties.

As far as I know, there is no a single word about gambling in the Bible, it means it couldn´t be prohibited and considered as a sin. ;)

      :f_thumbsup: My words exactly... ;)

      Cheers,

I think you should ask your priest this question. I doubt you'll find many experts on religion here :)

Now that is considered a sport it is not a sin :D

If you are a professional athlete it's ok, so it's also ok for poker. It was a sin when it was not considered a sport...

The bible does not specifically condemn gambling.

However it does say this -

" For the love of money is a root of all sorts of injurious things, and by reaching out for this love some have been led astray from the faith and have stabbed themselves all over with many pains." 1 Timothy 6:10

So while the bible does not condemn gambling it does specifically warn against the love of money. The preceding verse says:

"However, those who are determined to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and many senseless and hurtful desires, which plunge men into destruction and ruin" 1 Timothy 6:9

Does this mean it is against the scriptures to accumulate wealth?

Solomon had this to say in the book of Ecclesiastes -

"For wisdom is for a protection [the same as] money is for a protection; but the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom itself preserves alive its owners.- Ecclesiastes 7:12"

The bible acknowledges that money serves as a "protection" for us, we need it to look after our families, pay medical bills, etc etc. Notice however, that the bible considers wisdom to be more advantageous than money. This sentiment is echoed in Jesus' words at Matthew 6:19,20

“Stop storing up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break in and steal. Rather, store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes, and where thieves do not break in and steal"

The scriptures here make the point, that whatever material wealth we accumulate in this lifetime will be of no benefit to us after we die. No amount of money can save us from death.

Playing poker professional or otherwise is a personal choice, and is not in direct violation of the scriptures. However, should one's habits get out of control to the point where they can no longer provide for their family or themselves, it would be going against various other scriptural principles.

However, this is just what the bible says. Catholicism has never been an entity that is overly concerned with what the scriptures teach, so you can probably get way with doing whatever the hell you like.

You are idiot and I can prove you worng in 1000 ways.
KGB Brain washed thast what you are.Ask me if you need to know how wrong are you and how bad are you for humanity...mr.IDONTLIKE to read books.
You can't prove god exists neither can we prove that it doesn't exist. However why should we provide proof for something that has never been proven to exist?
It's like saying the flying spaghetti monster is real.. Prove me otherwise..

I'm not looking for an argument.. I just think it's strange for you to get so mad when you know you can't prove what you believe is real. Just let it rest.

It's a sin, same as preflop sex.

      You will go to hell.

On a sidenote - there is a christian priest who plays poker professionally and gives all of his winnings to his church.

      Poker playing priest

      This is correct.

All one can do is consider the evidence and reach an informed decision.

      @martins1337

I think it is pretty poor taste to post this video here, given the background of OP.

Also no real contradictions are presented here to anyone who wishes to give the matter more than a cursory examination.

Be pagan, back to our roots goddamit

Ten, kur saulė leidžias vakaruos, kur Prūsų giminės
Pavargusios kovot su kryžių nešančiais šunim,
Krito Pamedė, Galinda, Barta, gynės Semba
Ir Notanga sukilimais šlavė vokiečių pilis.
      Penkiasdešimt metų kovės narsiai, nenurimo
Karo būgnas, plakt širdis, kerštu liepsnojantys ginklai,
Teks palikt tėvų žemes ir pažadą sugrįžt, ugnim
Išdegint tai, kas svetima, į pelenus paverst.

Prūsus ir Jotvingius, Kuršius, Sėlius ir Žiemgalius
Lietuva priglaust suspėjo, ginklą galinčius laikyt,
Geležinės valdė rankos, kautis troško ir atkeršyt,
Už tėvų mirtis krikščionims galą padaryt.
Niekšai, jūs svajojat eit toliau, anapus Nemuno,
Ir žemę Lietuvos grėsmingais kryžiais nusmaigstyt,
Mes vergaut nepratę, mūsų laisvė - tai kova,
      Mes visi numirsime mūšyje laisvi.

      Pralaimi tie, kurie nebetiki,
Nustoja plakt širdis, įpuolusi į neviltį.
      Sudėt ginklus - pasmerkt gyvenimą,
      Iškeisti laisvę į beviltišką vergavimą.
Kas drįsta pult į priešų begalę,
      Suklupęs kumštyje suspaudžia savo pergalę.
      Visai arti, anapus Nemuno,
