Inappropriate coach behavior

I enjoy the coachings and they are very useful. The thing I'm quite annoyed is that some coaches are really arrogant and start crap talk. For example calling their opponents stupid, idiots and such, and shouting that all the way. No one was born with poker skills and coaches are obviously playing in lower stakes they are used to so why the hell humiliate and make fun of other casual players that just give you money. I really feel like I don't wanna continue with a coaching after such things.

well then don't. If you wanna be nice to the fish thats up to you but poker is about exploiting people who are weaker and less intelligent than you and if there were no stupid people there would be no profit

Being kind and making the game of poker enjoyable for the fish will make him come back.. and play more -ev poker while actually having +ev experience with poker cuz he'll have fun playing the game... Thats why people trash talking the fish is like the stupidest thing ever..

yea but the players attending coaching look up to the coach and might pick up this dis-respective behavior towards fish that hurts the winnings for all of us :)

But depends pretty much on context.. Not sure how much coaches were really flaming the fish or just making some jokes on their cost :)

I agree on everything Hlynkinn said.

Not that fish will hear it, it doesn't matter. But lets say you're a pro basketball player and someone in your eyes doesn't hit a free throw. No necessity to call him at idiot or stupid, he just hasn't developed such skills till now.

Naming the exact coaches won't help either. I think there should be general guidelines how to speak on coachings.

And I really don't mind when say grummerel makes fun of his weaker opponents cause it has some kind of humor and makes the coachings fun. But calling and shouting "such and idiot","so stupid call" isn't really appealing.

      Hi @all & especially dydukas,

You can also send an email to coaching@pokerstrategy.com and we will investigate ourselfes and talk to the coach in question.
However it should be kind of self evident that our coaches rather want to analyse and use the weaknesses of their opponents rather than making fun of them. Of course, if you loose a hand due to an opponents missplay our coaches are human beings and might shortly want to express their disapproval with the opponents play. I think our coaches in general behave well and I would appreciate if you could forward me your concerns in detail.

      Best regards,SvenBe from Gibraltar

Being good at poker has nothing to do with being intelligent or not. Obv, if someone is really dumb, s/he might not be able to play winning poker but lot's of intelligent people loose money because they didn't develop the skills yet. Thinking that loosing players are dumb is part of the disrespectful behaviour that dydukas raised.

Having said this, I have attended a few sng coachings and thought that the coaches were always polite and never offended the other players.

NightFrostaSS and Saruniks, that has nothing to do with our nationality.

SvenBe, I would rather state that in the coaching to the person live. But on the whole there should be some kind of rules of live coaching as I mentioned before.

rhezz, you are perfectly right. Some bright businessmen might just like poker as leisure activity and like to gamble with their earned money. This money goes to poker players as they treat poker as business on their own. I don't see any idiots on both parties in this situation.

EDIT: That has nothing to do with coaches competence. Coachings are always helpful and coaches really do their job well. Except that when they're faced with "fish" I really think they should refer to them as "casual players" or something cause after all this is what we are making money off. And again with some good humor it would be even enjoyable and not insulting.

I know, casual players are part of every poker room and we should always give them a warm welcome - either in your local casino or at PokerStars.com, Full Tilt, PartyPoker etc.

Not only in the forum, but also live during a coaching we are open for feedback. Our coaches are the last to not admit their mistakes. Maybe the coach in Question had a bad day - totaly human, and needed a small reminder? Please help out within the coaching and make our live coaching sessions an even more awesome experience!

I have always found the coaches to be very polite and extremely patient, I sometimes ask some really dumb questions and they always take the time to answer them, I think its ok for coaches to say someone is playing like a dummbass etc when they are playing like that!! :P

poker strategy coaches and the admin team are great!!! :P

i competly disagree with OP here. Coaches should be able to make fun of fish as much as they want. Its funny and makes coaching more enjoyable. Ofc if u were playing in a casino with the fish, we must not insult them. I personally like starting non poker conversations with fish (in casinos) as i agree that it is +EV to make the fish have a good time even if he/she is losing+these conversations are fun for me too cuz live poker is very slow.

      That's just my words.

As for the rest of your post I have no experience with live games, cant comment on that. As for my home games stating that you know their range helps them folding everything.
