There comes a time in everybody's poker career when they have to ask themselves a serious question, when will i make a blog?

      A bit about myself:

I live in a small town called Heanor in Derbyshire, England. I'm unemployed, struggling to find employment so have taken up poker as a full time hobby. Since this is practically the only thing i have to do (other than swatting up on psychology when i'm not lazy), poker has my full attention. I also listen to a lot of music, play guitar when i can (which is not enough) and am about to join the gym. I've been trying to sign up with open uni for about 18 months but for some reason or other, my financial application is never accepted. Mainly due to the ineptness of official figures who don't know how to follow 5 very simple questions to confirm my PP ID is in fact, me. Anyway..

Stumbling upon PS.com last year, i signed up then forgot about it and didn't play much poker for a while due to other commitments. Came back as a regular player last month, and 're-found' this site. I had instant success, my BR grew from $50 to $300 within a week. Most of that was owed to finishing 8th in the daily dollar for $133. I dodged the fishy/luckbox all the way through, in fact i lucked my way into the final table when my JJ beat QQ. Since then, blimey! Tough luck.

A few of us have grouped together to offer support whilst playing the Daily Dollar at FTP, which is cool. Sometimes we analyze each others hands, but I don't think any of us are experienced enough to know exactly what we should do at the moment. I feel okay with my strategy though (mainly the charts), although i suck out in every tournament i play. Which is hard after 3/4 hours work.

But I'm determined, i want to earn money playing poker. As a 29 year old in a dead county, with no work, can't even get into open uni, poker is my only course of potential income. I know i can do it though, I'm ambitious and know with a little hard work things will come and I'll ship that damned Daily Dollar tournament soon!

Any other MTT & SnG enthusiasts out there like me? Please drop my a reply, and we can talk strategy.

In fact, I'm very interested in creating a team/mob/gang. So, if you're interested, I'm here.

Will post a couple of hands shortly, which i know are dodgy, but I'm interested to hear people's thoughts.

Throughout the tourney, i was playing super aggressive. I didn't want to change style, so i continued with the 4xBB rule. Villain is calling everything, and my image just before this hand was loose aggro. I had AA prior to this hand to, and had 2 all ins within the last 3 or 4 hands.

On the turn i knew he had 2 pair, call it a read if you want. But i didn't want to believe it. I know I should have folded, but wanted to post this hand because it really annoyed me! :P

Again, villain is loose, he lost a lot of chips before this hand in a couple of show downs. Very competitive table, very loose.

I was running card dead for like 1.5 hours, so took the initiative and raised 4x, i was prepared to call any shove since this is a loose table.

      Hey, Dan,

There must be a million people in your situation. I hope some of them come forward so that you can discuss not only poker in this blog, but social issues.

With your $133 win in the DD, you are able to play another $133 worth of DD entries on profit, and by the time that runs out you should have another high finish. I'm cheering you on along with the rest of the DD gang. Right now you're living our dream! :)

One side note: Go to your profile and enable HTML so that your signature resolves properly. Right now it's not a clickable link because HTML is not enabled.

Thanks Belayd, I'm sure one of us will take that tournament down within the next month or so...maybe that's to ambitious but i really feel with perseverance and dedication to the Daily Dollar cause we can do it. The competition within is not better than us, there are some talented players in there but not many.

Would be nice if people stopped calling my raises with speculative hands and flopping straights though.

How do i enable HTML? Looked around but couldn't find anything.

Sorry, it's actually enabling BBcode. Go to the page where you edit your signature and click Options under the edit window. The disable BBcode box will be checked so just uncheck it and apply the changes.

Why would you check the river? I mean, checking the turn is one thing. I wouldn't do it, but that's me. But there can be no conceivable advantage from checking the river. If you bet, your opponent either folds, and you win exactly the amount you win by checking, or he calls/re-raises and you win more chips. Those are the only possible outcomes with a royal flush, so checking is never, ever, ever correct.

Agree, LOL at checking back THE nuts on the river. :D

He probably just wanted to show his royal flush. :f_p:

Second blog what I have read from the first post to end. Maybe I´am going to start playing some MTT´s if you will create a team :f_biggrin: Have similar goals, but playing STT only.

And first royal flush should be checked for showdown of course, it is once in a life

About the checking back DA NUTS on the turn and river.

I checked the turn to see the king drop out on the river, it did!

The guy was protecting his blind, it was obvious. He was checking back to me at lightening speed. Never seen it bounce back to me so quickly.

I'm showing off no matter what, sure I can bet, but he'll fold. No doubt about it in my mind now, or at the time.

      -------------

Updates on the last couple of days.

I've had some really bad luck over the past few weeks whilst playing MTT's, variance has eaten me alive. Best example is this....

Open raising like a mad man from UTG+2, then calling. Knowing full well he's beat but hitting his outs straight up on the flop. Added to the fact people are shoving with crap after us to, but ho hum. This is Daily Dollar life. I've seen people do worse at the WSOP (on tv).

My mind set dramatically improved yesterday though, and I cashed in both Daily Dollar tournaments, only made a small profit though of about $2 because i multi entry the freeze out.

Goals have changed slightly for the next month. I've joined a team with fellow Englishman Simonr852 and his friend. We're all beginners but have the same goals, to ace strategy in whatever that might be and to frequent live poker casino's.

So over the next month I'm gonna be head to toe in 60 poker books from Brunson to Helmuth, Harrington to Greenstein and I'm even going to sample some (what is to me) advanced mathematics. Plus all the psychology books, but feel like I'm pretty good with psychology in the first place. It's my thing.

      ---------------

To Jitroceler. Are you from the UK? If so where?

I'm looking to swap strategy tips with anybody, so please just message me if you want to start a PS mob/team and we'll get involved!

If you're from the UK, it makes it that much sweeter to have a UK mob that can travel together when we all become sick pro's.

      ---------------

I believe it can be done. Might have to delve into cash games within the month, but not until I've read those books. Feel like I've got a pretty solid hold of the game now.

I look at Andrew Feldman and think, he's a nice guy and a decent player. But I think I could beat him. I've out lasted him in almost all the Daily Dollar tournaments over the past week (he's playing them for a warm up for the WSOP methinks, or marketing).

Then I look at Sam Trickett, Jake Codi and gain inspiration. Particularly from Codi and his friend (forgot his name) who're both from Rochdale and down to Earth guys.

      Sam Trickett is just, hard!

      ----------------------

So if anybody wants to set up a crew, just lemme know! Together we can climb that stakes ladder and take it to the live tables and pwnage can commence!

      Maybe you're right.

I think he plays with fear. I like him though, he's a nice guy. Had a chat with him during one of the daily dollar tourneys.

His experience might do me over initially, but with time (maybe I'm arrogant :P ) I could take him.
