Which limits we're talking about? I know one guy who makes pretty much solid profits at 11$ limit (11,1% ROI almost 4k games sample, not a big sample but quite decent)

"Steer clear" is an expression meaning "avoid"
      Example
Literal: The Titanic sunk because it failed to steer clear of an iceberg.
Metaphorical: My bankroll sunk because I failed to steer clear of Full Tilt.

Yea, have you thought about moving to other room at least until you build up your bankroll for 11+$ sngs?

BRM is pretty much personal thing. Things you should consider:

      1) Ability of moving down the limits when neccesary

      2) Psychological effect of losing specific % of your BR(by this, i mean: let's say you lose 10 BI. If you have 100 BI, you lost 10% and it might have bigger psychological effect on your game compared to losing same 10 BI when you have 200 BI(which is 5%).)

      3) If poker is your main/only income, your BRM should be more on conservative side

I had more ideas, but can't remember them now :) Oh, well obviously, game type matters too :)

      Game speed:
I think on lower limits(where rake is big) playing regular speed sngs should be better. You will pay less rake overall, you will have more profits cause of bigger edge and also you won't have such a big swings as in turbos so even 50 BI BRM can be enough(which should allow to move up faster). But for higher limits, i would try to play mostly turbos, because imo you can achieve better $/hour at turbos compared to regular speeds :)
