Hi folks,

This guide is here to give you the solutions to the most common problems with video playback on the PokerStrategy.com website.

If you have any other tips, please reply to this thread and I'll add them to the OP.

If, after following the steps here, you still haven't had any luck, please do drop us a line explaining the problem and we'll do our best to troubleshoot the issue.

I can't watch videos - what should I do?

Sometimes, when attempting to watch one of our videos, you may find that the screen remains black and the video doesn't start. This can often be resolved by:

1. Install the newest version of Adobe Flash

In order to stream videos, we use a Flash Player. In order to use this player on your computer, you'll need the latest version of the Adobe Flash plugin for your browser (Firefox, Safari, Opera, Chrome etc.). You can get it here:

Abode Flash Plugin

Note that this URL will automatically detect the correct version for your PC and browser!

1b: Flash-Cookies:

One user found this link http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager03.html helpful.
You need to check the box that says: "Allow third parties to store Flash content on your computer" (then restart your browser).

You'll also need to make sure that the global settings for allowing Flash Content are turned on in your browser
Did you already install Flash?

Maybe your version of flash isn't supported by our Video player. Please upgrade to the latest version as described above.

2. Check your cache settings

It is possible that the videos cannot be locally cached because your cache is not properly configured. In your browser options, clear your current cache and set the storage limit to 200MB.

3. Test another Browser

Try using a different browser (where possible, Firefox, or Firefox Portable) to the one you use as standard.

4. Test another Video

Perhaps the problem is specific to the video you're trying to watch. Test another video from our servers, and also try to play a video on YouTube.

5. Wait...

Depending on the size of the video you're streaming, and the speed of your internet connection, it can take up to 30 seconds for the video to be buffered before playing.

Please note that 30 seconds is really the long tail here though, so unless your internet connection is particularly slow, if you're waiting more than 15 seconds for the video to start playing, then there's a different problem.

6. The video pauses in full screen mode, but the sound continues..

This is caused by a general problem with the Flash Player. Simply right click on the display window and deactivate hardware acceleration in the settings there. This should ensure that the video runs smoothly.

Note that deactivating hardware acceleration can also be a panacea for many problems and we recommend that you deactivate this feature if you're having problems with videos in the general case.

7. Advanced Solution: Reinstalling codecs
You may wish to reinstall the codecs for your computer, or even download and install completely new ones. Many users have had success with the K-lite codec pack for Windows.

NB: If you're not entirely comfortable reinstalling codecs, please consult your usual computer technician.
