      Should I just have shoved the flop. Right afterwards I wished I had. I had so many outs

      Well, I mean you don't have to shove the flop, you could as well play it this way as you did:

      Board: A:spade: T:diamond: 8:diamond:
             Equity     Win     Tie
      UTG    46.74%  46.74%   0.00% { 9d7d }
      UTG+1  53.26%  53.26%   0.00% { TT, 88, ATs, A8s, ATo, A8o }

      And even if you did then you can easily snap-call the turn for the given odds. The guy is giving you very good odds, I would definitely consider Calling there as well.
