      I don't know what to say about this play. For me it was standard fold on the turn but I was curious what he had. I think $2 price for information wasn't bad.

      Consider there are two flushdraws on the board+ he can always bet there 88 and then take his free showdown, I´d also c/c turn. You´re likely not ahead river, but getting good odds+ you also get information, I´d also c/c his small bet on the river.

      Don't turn your hand into bluff-catcher with your Check/Call. Rather 2nd barrel it and do it for protection and also for free showdown.
