I think raise/fold with AQ against that player is fine. He would still open on the BU medium pp-s, KQ, AT/AJ that you´re all ahead of and likely would only shove QQ+, AK that you´re way behind.
Since your AQ is suited you can also call pf and play postflop. If you hit your flushdraw or top two pair you can comfortable c/r and play for stacks, if you just hit one pair hand you can c/c once and then decide on the turn.
