      The turnbet is ok, because you have to fold if he raises you. On the river I would've bet a bit more. Something like 6 bucks.
      What was his hand? KK,QQ,JJ ?

      I would bet/fold pf. AQ isn´t that good hand to play oop.
      You´re probably get called by worse hands if you play postflop bet/fold all the way.
      Even like that line more, than c/c flop, c/c turn and if he checked behind then bet out river.
      Some players would never raise here with AK, so that is the risk when you make these valuebets.
      4$ is fine on the river, but since he called both flop and turn bets, you can make it a little bigger- 6$ is probably also get called.
