this hand was played against a calling station type. i figured b/f was the correct line here, although i really wanted to call because he was playing 50% of hands, i still think he has A-x in most cases here.

      Hi, ilovemagic.

Against a calling station bet/folding flop might be better indeed but there is not tons of value. Of course with a 50% range he has lots of draws, pairs+backdoor straights, and even flush draws... but also a few Ax to compensate.

So betting is ok but I wouldn't mind checking behind on occasion since we even have the redraw in case a :club: hits. This would both let him bluff if he hit nothing (which even a calling station might in such an obvious spot) and would make it easier for him to hit a second pair or call turn and river with one if he did hit the 8 for example.

Anyway, if he's bad enough to call twice there with worse betting is better but unfortunately it's indeed bet/fold - even if he won't raise AT or so, but if he is indeed a calling station he's not raising 97 either...
