His small bets confuse the... out of me here.

Should I ever be checking the river here?

      MP: $5.45 (54.5 bb)
      Hero (CO): $10 (100 bb)
      BTN: $11.89 (118.9 bb)
      SB: $9.92 (99.2 bb)
      BB: $10 (100 bb)
      UTG: $10.77 (107.7 bb)

Preflop: Hero is CO with Q A
UTG folds, MP raises to $0.30, Hero raises to $1.05, 3 folds, MP calls $0.75

      Flop: ($2.25) 8 5 2 (2 players)
MP bets $0.50, Hero calls $0.50

      Turn: ($3.25) T (2 players)
MP bets $0.50, Hero calls $0.50

      River: ($4.25) 3 (2 players)
MP checks, Hero bets $3.40, MP calls $3.40

      Results: $11.05 pot ($0.50 rake)
      Final Board: 8 5 2 T 3
      MP showed A T and won $10.55 ($5.10 net)
Hero showed Q A and lost (-$5.45 net)

      Hello MattDenness,

Preflop: What's the reason for 3betting in first place? What's his stats?

      As played
Postflop: Could be a block-bet which tries to see free cards which very often happens to be true, could be overpair, could be anything. Stats, reads are important, me wasn't playing at the tables. ;) Afterwards you should ask yourself what you going to achieve with the call down with just 3rd flush? If you hit you wont most likely get paid from a lot worse unless he is a station, neither you don't know where you stand if you hit one of your pairs. So you should ask yourself:
      a) Should I even go for the call-down, what I am going to achieve with it?
      b) What worse hands is he capable of calling the shove on river? -> What's your purpose of calling flop & turn then again if you don't shove the river? :)

      Best Regards.
