So far I've been using Elephant to track my progress and hands but I would like to go step further (i hope :P ) and start using it to help them define my opponents and how to act against them. I would like to start with some useful stats on my HUD but I don't know which are good and not too complicated for beginners and may improve my play. I play NL games at the moment using MSS.

So what would be some useful stats to put on my HUD as a beginner?

edit: I did read Stats(1) and (2) articles.

      Let me quote myself ;P

      I did read Stats(1) and (2) articles.

I do know what does each stat mean but I don't want to go head-first into them so I'm looking for some tips what to start with. Like...the most important stats that play huge role in beginners game and games on low level in general.

Would really appreciate some tips, thanks for post anyway. :D

lol  sorry i was playing when i read the thread

Well i think the standard default HUD on holdem manager is something like:

      VPIP/PFR/AF
      Cbet/fold to Cbet/steal

I might be slightly off but its something similar i think and this is fine imo gives you a good general impression of what kind of guy your playing against, and you can always expand the HUD and look for extra stats (not sure if you can do this in elephant though)

I've never played MSS so i can't really suggest what might be handy for that but in my opinion just keep it simple to start with and with time and experience you will develop your own HUD with stats that you personally find most helpful to you

      Hey dusty,

The main ones for me are:

Number of Hands / VPIP / PFR
      Steal / Fold to Steal
      C - Bet / Fold to C-bet

Also interesting stats to add are "Vs Hero" - which shows how a player acts towards you, if you use this along with the stats shown above, you can gather if the opponent tailors his actions to what he sees on his HUD and what is happening at the table.

I also like to add VPIP / PFR for certain positions to gather more information about the type of opponent I am facing and if they are consistently positionally aware and exploitive - overall the best way to gain an edge is to profile the people you play against, stats will help you do this as will gather information as you play against them.

      I hope this helps,

Let me know if you have anything else on your mind!

      Hallo!

In my opinion it is very easy to use the standard HUD from elephant. At the beginning there could be too much information, but after a very short time you will filter these information out to the necessary ones and the unnecessary. And if you are vlimbing up into the limits, you do not need to change your HUD.

      My beginner HUD would be:

      Name/# of Hands
      VPIP/PFR/3-Bet/Fold to 3-Bet

After that, I would move to this:

      Name/# of Hands
      VPIP/PFR/3-Bet/Fold to 3-Bet
CO Raise 1st, BTN Raise 1st, SB Raise 1st
Flop C-bet, Fold to Flop C-Bet

The most important stat is #hands!

The rest of them are meaningless if you don't take into account the size of the sample.

I could have a stat line like this :-

      VPIP 100% PFR 100% 3Bet 100% AF 6.1 CBet 100% FoldToCBet 0% WTSD 100%

Which makes me look like a maniac :s_evil: though I may just have had AA followed by KK and the sample size is 2.

VPIP & PFR usually begin to have value after say 30-40 hands but the rest of them take a lot longer to give a reasonable picture of the players post flop tendencies.

      Hope this helps

Gonna try the beginnersetting tonight. But why you don't include the aggresionfactor? And what is a good samplesize for 3betting stats?
