Played about 300 hands so far today... So here's one I was wondering about my thought process...

Villain (500 hands) is a 25/18 opening 27% BTNs with a fold to resteal 29%

      Grabbed by Holdem Manager
      NL Holdem $0.10(BB) Replayer
      SB ($1.99)
      Hero ($10)
      UTG ($5.08)
      CO ($3.37)
      BTN ($10.10)

      Dealt to Hero K:spade: A:club:

fold, fold, BTN raises to $0.35, fold, Hero raises to $1.10, BTN calls $0.75

Once he calls I have him on something like 22-QQ, AT+, KT+, QT+, 87s+. Maybe some one-gappers like T8s and J9s and lower suited A's. He'd have 4B AA and KK

      FLOP ($2.25) Q:diamond: 5:club: 7:club:

Hero bets $1.50, BTN calls $1.50

So against his range I still have about 40-50% equity. He doesn't like to fold vrs Cbet (20% in 3B pots) so betting here I'm still getting called with plenty of hands I beat weaker A's, gutshots, fd etc. And have good equity vrs smaller pockets. Pretty much everything but 55, 77, QQ and maybe AQ which are raising.

      TURN ($5.25) Q:diamond: 5:club: 7:club: 5:heart:

Hero bets $3.30, BTN calls $3.30

The 5 is pretty much a blank. Taking out hands he would raise I still have about 40%. Nothing that he called on the flop is folding here other than maybe small pp's. He tanks here which can rule out AQ and KQ. I've reads that he insta calls w/ top pair. AK, 88-JJ, 7x and (missed) draws are all calling and folding river so my plan is to shove anything.

      RIVER ($11.85) Q:diamond: 5:club: 7:club: 5:heart: J:club:

Hero bets $4.10 (AI), BTN folds

      Hero wins $11.26

I'm betting $4 to win $16 so just have to get a fold >25% of the time. He's calling QJ, JJ and a flush. I'm sure he'd be folding the hands mentions plus any weaker Q's because of flush/domination.

      Thoughts/comments please.

Id put him on the same range as you, and that hes playing of the Q and then the 3rd club scared him of.

Risky spot if he did hit anything, im pretty sure youve got him to fold the best hand here.

Not really. Play with friends the odd time but that wouldn't really count as poker because the girls don't really know the rules (we have to make a hand rankings chart with examples and run through it everytime) and they just assume your bluffing so call everything. Only time I've ever played properly live was a freeroll in gala last summer.

Do you play much in the casinos? Been tempted to head down for a few tournaments to see what they're like but never get around to it...

I want to go casino. May go down 12th march some time. We're having a big poker tournoment on the 12th to. Then heading gosta if you want to join. I'll have to add you on Facebook. ?

Welcome to our blogging section Holmeboy!

Off to quite the great start, bustling with activity!

What coach are you working with?

How is your BR planned out, withdrawing for living expenses while improving and moving up, or completely separated from your normal finances and can be used solely for betterment?

      Glad to have you anyway,

      Regards,
      Richard

@ Spungeh: I'm going Weston Super Mare for mates bday that weekend so not sure if i'll be back for the 12th. Keep me posted though.

I'll prob head quids the week after though so might bump into you then if your going? Yeah sound, I'll add you in community. Don't want to post name here!

@ Fruktpuff: Thanks! Think it's already more successful than my last blog haha. Working with Bierbaer atm, only had the one session but i'd def recommend him.

Not 100% sure what to do with bankroll at the moment. What i'd like to do is just keep the winnings in my roll, use rakerace money for coachings and withdraw rakeback.

I want to withdraw rakeback purely because to move up it means I need to be beating the limits, not just a rakeback pro. So it avoids me taking -EV shots at the next limit just because I'm rolled for it. Only going to move up when I feel I'm ready even if I've got 100BIs (slight exaggeration) for the next level.

Another triple barrel... Busy at the moment so I'll just post it for now and comment on it later.

      Grabbed by Holdem Manager
      NL Holdem $0.10(BB) Replayer
      SB ($10.01)
      BB ($10)
      Hero ($10)
      BTN ($2.37)

      Dealt to Hero Q:spade: A:club:

Hero raises to $0.40, fold, SB calls $0.35, fold

      FLOP ($0.90) J:heart: 4:diamond: 8:heart:

SB checks, Hero bets $0.50, SB calls $0.50

Villian is playing 24/20 but has a high 3B (14%). His VPIP from SB is 18. But I was playing v. loose on the table. Had two passive limpers to my right so i was isoraising very wide. I think I was 34/32 or something like that. So I expect him to play a bit loser versus me. The problem I had was determining what hands he calls and what hands he 3B with.

Decided he's calling roughly something like: 22-TT, AJo, ATo, Axs, 65s+, 97s+, KT, QT, and maybe a few other K's, Q's.

His fold to cb flop/turn/river are 33/0/75. I've got 400 hands but no notes on him - which is terrible form. On the flop the J hits very little of his calling range. So I already know he'll pay to see his draws, but is he capable of folding a 8x facing multiple barrels?

      TURN ($1.90) J:heart: 4:diamond: 8:heart: J:spade:

SB checks, Hero bets $1.20, SB calls $1.20

The J I view as a blank. It means I've 0 equity against a Jx hand, but that's only a tiny part of his range.

      RIVER ($4.30) J:heart: 4:diamond: 8:heart: J:spade: T:club:

      SB checks, Hero bets $3.25,

Then on he river T only really hits 97 and Q9. He has a high fold to river c bet so the only hands I'm being called with are Jx Q9, 97, flush and fullhouse. So fired third barrel get folds out of all these 4x, 8x and pp type hands that have me beat at showdown. Obv folding if he comes over the top.

      EDIT: Updated

      Sup?

Feel I played quite well so far. Lost concentration during that steep slope around hand 130 so I'll have to make sure I'm aware of that and finish the session if I start losing focus. Plus made 2 TERRIBLE plays... Really pissed off about it. There is no excuse...

So spews of the day. Honestly can't tell you what I was thinking...

      Grabbed by Holdem Manager
      NL Holdem $0.10(BB) Replayer
      Hero ($13.04)
      BB ($9.43)
      UTG ($3.08)
      CO ($10.40)
      BTN ($25.71)

      Dealt to Hero K:spade: K:heart:

UTG calls $0.10, fold, BTN calls $0.10, Hero raises to $0.60, fold, UTG calls $0.50, BTN calls $0.50

      FLOP ($1.90) 7:heart: 8:diamond: 6:diamond:

Hero bets $1.50, UTG folds, BTN calls $1.50

      TURN ($4.90) 7:heart: 8:diamond: 6:diamond: T:spade:

Hero bets $2.25, BTN calls $2.25

      RIVER ($9.40) 7:heart: 8:diamond: 6:diamond: T:spade: 5:spade:

Hero bets $2.90, BTN raises to $8.05, Hero folds

      BTN wins $14.44

Got lucky here, might sound dumb but kind of wish he'd called just so I'd get punished for it... Plan was to cbet and barrel on an A, T, or heart. Obv messed up.

      Grabbed by Holdem Manager
      NL Holdem $0.10(BB) Replayer
      SB ($10.45)

      BTN ($2.98)

      Dealt to Hero T:heart: A:heart:

Hero raises to $0.40, UTG+1 calls $0.40, fold, BTN calls $0.40, fold, fold

      FLOP ($1.35) 7:heart: 2:diamond: J:club:

Hero bets $0.70, UTG+1 folds, BTN calls $0.70

      TURN ($2.75) 7:heart: 2:diamond: J:club: 6:club:

      Hero wins $6.04

      Anyway here's the graph:

Hi Holmeboy, I am looking forward to you talking about this hand, especially regarding thought process and reads/stats on the opponent. It also looks like you cut the end of the hand history off, did villain fold the river? If not what did he show up with?

I'm really hungover at the moment so couldn't be arsed going into too much detail. But basically there's two types of bets:

Back bet where your betting for an outcome.

Lay bet where your betting against an outcome - your acting as the bookmaker.

So for football with Newcastle v Sunderland later if you back Newcastle you want them to win. If you lay Newcastle your looking for a Sunderland win or a draw.

To lock in a profit you want to back high and lay low. So when your doing it just think about what will make a price move, come to a logical conclusion, and build a plan around it.

The easiest sport to trade on is probably tennis. Just look through the matches and find a guy who's odds are around 1.5 and has a good serve game. Back him at the start of his serve, then lay if/when he wins the game it should drop to around 1.42-1.44. So with commission you'll lock in a 3-4% profit. As a side note I'd never trade on a live event if I can't watch it.

If you want to know more about the back/lay concept then google 'matched betting'. If you understand that then just watch the odds of a tennis match fluctuate with that idea in mind so you get the hang of it.

Any questions just let me know.
