      Hi,

I'm just starting to play SnGs, and a bit of BSS on the side.
I've noticed that a lot of people recommend HoH1 and Phils Little Green Book..
Which one should i start with?
[Ive never read a poker book before, but i wouldn't say i'm a complete beginner]

Not the green book. Also, HoH2 is better than HoH1 in my opinion, however, you migth want to start with HoH1. You can read more specialised books dependings on what you play (SNG/cashgames). If you start, HoH is good to begin with and understand the game somehow, but it won't help your BSSgame a lot, however it will improve your general understanding of the game.

I'll go onto HoH2 after the first one then, is there a book that does help bss game?
I've also already ordered Collin Moshmans SNG book so i'll be reading that after HoH.

The best books for BSS i read are, Professional No-Limit Hold 'em: Volume I by Matt Flynn, Sunny Mehta, and Ed Miller and No Limit Hold 'em: Theory and Practice by David Sklansky and Ed Miller.

EDIT: NLHE Theory and Practise migth not be as interesting to start with, because it covers many great concepts, but thet aren't apllied directly. You should do the implementing in your game.

At the moment I'm reading the Harrington on Cashgames, so I don't know yet if these are good books.

I read it twice as an ebook, and I believe that in relation to others book it is not a great book at all in 2008. It's outdated an less aggressive than today's games.

I think that if you follow the advice in this book on the micros then you will go broke more quickly than by following the advice of any other book.

HOH1 is a great book to start with.

      just reviving the thread...
was curious that no one mentioned Harrington on Hold em Vol 3?
Is it not as good as the previous 2?
Should i buy it, or is it not worth it.

Book 3 is a workbook. It only covers (real) sample hands and an analysis of these.

part 3 is very cool actually, it's made as a test, and you get points according to the adequecy of your choice
it's fun i like it better than reading theory theory theory :)

I found HoH1/2 a great book to start with... i say book cuz i mean what would 2 be with out 1... its start of a tourny and then ending of a tourny so i just kinda count it as one book :P . anywho its aim'd at tournament play but for beginners its helps over all NL play. It shows u ways to think about hands which is very helpfull in any NL game. I'd start with HoH1/2 IMHO, then as mentioned befor
No Limit Hold 'em: Theory and Practice by David skalinsky and Ed Miller. Then move into Hold'em Poker for Advanced players by Daivd Skalinsky and manson malmuth.

you could start with theory and pratice, but i wouldn't start with hold'em for advanced players.

anywho if u pick up these books, it should keep u busy for a little bit, even if u don't start with hoh i still recommend picking it up.

I would say that HoH3 is very important, it will let you find out your flaws so you know to which part of Hoh1/2 you must go back and reread it multiple times.
And if you are looking for casgame books, then david sklansky is your guy :D

2.5k on fpp store... or ebay... or print an ebook :D

i also think HOH are the best books for beginners... the bible of sng/mtt play

HOH3 is a very interesting book, i remember i got 394 points when i read it years ago ("almost a solid player") but i think im a solid player now lol

sklansky... i tried to read it, but somehow i ended sleeping
also the limits on that book are mid-stake, so applying that to micros may not be the best idea (there are a lot of complicated concepts involving reads and implied odds)

harrington on cash games... some people say they arent too great, but... maybe this year i will order them on the fpp store...
