Hello, I'm Martins from Latvia and I think it's time to start a blog. It will help to keep track on progress (if any :D ) and my game improvement.

I started with Pokerstrategy 50$ at FTP. Played SSS for about 2 month and realized this kind of poker is not for me. Switched to ST SNG's and also thought it's kinda lame. Moved to FL and I was happy....for a while :D
Then moved to BSS and now it's about 2 years and still BSSing :)
Peak of my pokering was playing NL50SH. It was a few weeks before Black Friday and then. meh. After this, I didn't play poker for a while.
Starting of 2012, deposited to pokerstars, played some NL10, NL16, NL10zoom and NL25zoom. When I cleared my 1st deposit bonus, I changed to tracked site and now I'm playing NL25SH.

I think it's about 1.5 months since I've again thought about poker as a job opportunity (if one can say that) and I think it can be. With proper mindset and commitment making decent money is doable. So this blog is my road to that goal.

I play on laptop, so 4-6 tables is maximum that I play, but for game development, 4 tables is excellent. ~1h long session 2-4 times a day. When exams end, I will play more. GL&HF

The way to win at poker is to make better decisions than your opponents do. The way to improve at poker is to make better decisions than you used to.

      Woohoo, another Latvian player!

      Welcome to our blogging section!

Feels like we're getting more and more latvian bloggers by the day.. I think you're like the 5th startup the past 2-3 weeks!

Where in Latvia are you from/do you live?

What site do you play on now?

I live in Latvia myself, while I may not be from here, I still love it!

Summer's coming, the girls, oh the girls..

You mentioned "When exams end", what are you studying? How old are you? Tell us more about yourself!

Studying masters in electrotechnology, so not bad :)
Playing at WPT poker but don't like it that much. will see how it goes, maybe I will stay, maybe leave to another site.

Ooh, our countryside is near Cesis, somewhere in the woods outside Amata, so we go there sometimes, nice town for visiting over the day, not sure about if I'd want to live there though, I'm used to larger cities..

Will you be moving back after the term ends or stay in Riga?

Why don't you like WPT poker then? I always found it nice and fishy when I played at PartyPoker.

      Regards,
      Richard

I don't like party network that much b/c the client is kinda "interesting" for table selecting. not always you get the table you selected :D
      and shortstackers everywhere.
there's always fishes, and also 2/3 - 4/5 of playerpool is kinda regulars, playing 4+ tables so it's interesting.
and sometimes buttons disappear on the table for ~1sec.
I think I need more time to get used to this software, or forget what pokerstars client feels like :D
      and i pay 6.5bb/100 in rake :(

Were you 4 or 6 tabling at the time?

Didn't consider taking a break to cool off while you were tilting and realized it?

1st session I was 4tabling and played ~300 hands, then brake and later played 6tables. I prefer playing many small (~1h) sessions.
And tilt wasn't because I played bad, it was just mouse problems where it worked sometimes and others didn't.
Downloaded TableNinja, so that I don't have to plush mouse buttons. Don't have proper equipment to fix the button until next weekend.

Here is music I sometimes listen while playing :s_cool:

haven't played that much last days due to Uni stuff, but broke 4 digit mark. fells good, man.

I'm setting myself a starting challenge - 10k hands a week, starting next week. It's not much, but 4tabling is ~300-350hand/h, so it's ~30h of playing. And then the week after that - a bit more hands and so on.

As for this week - finishing semester > all :)

Took a shot at NL50. Think, I go back to NL25 when I lose ~2BI.
Interesting hand from my point of view, has to be some history between these two guys. both regulars.
I thought about squeezing, but chickened out :f_frown:

OK, it's time to uninstall TableNinja :f_biggrin:

      $0.50 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 5 players

      BB: $32.27
      UTG: $52.93

      Flop: ($22.25, 2 players) K:spade: 5:heart: 8:diamond:
      Hero bets $21.14

Difference between nl50 and nl25 isn't that big. Just need to Table select, Table select and Table select.

Been reading one poker book which I red more than year ago. And it's different. I think it's because when I am reading it, I can relate to different spots and say "yes, that's me, that weak player" :)

      Hero wins $0.00
      Hero wins $89.87

Also spewed off my stack in 3bet pot. Or did I?

      $0.50 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players

      MP: $47.83 41/19
      CO: $57.98
      Hero (BTN): $52.27
      SB: $48.50
      BB: $61.65
      UTG: $51.52

SB posts SB $0.25, BB posts BB $0.50

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.75) Hero has Q:spade: A:club:

fold, MP calls $0.50, CO raises to $2.25, Hero raises to $6.00, fold, fold, MP calls $5.50, CO calls $3.75

      Flop: ($18.75, 3 players) J:spade: 4:spade: T:spade:
MP checks, CO checks, Hero checks

I didn't think anything better would fold and worse call, so I check back. I think this was bad move. VS going broke range I have ~24,5%

      Board: T:spade: J:spade: 4:spade:
             Equity     Win     Tie
      MP2    24.55%  24.55%   0.00% { AcQs }
      MP3    75.45%  75.45%   0.00% { JJ-TT, 44, JTs, As9s, As8s, 9s8s, As7s, 8s7s, As6s, As5s, 6s5s, As3s, As2s } = 2.04% of all hands

VS both of them going all in on flop I have ~14%
what they would call pre and fold to cbet?
      ~8%of all hands,
22-33,55-99,Adxd,Ahxh,Acxc,suited nonspade broadways and 98s,78s,67s nonspades.
This means ~1 in 4 times he has me beat and 3 out of 4 hes folding to cbet (lets assume I play vs MP, and CO folds everything except TT,JJ)
Lets say I cbet 10$ he folds 3/4 of the time and pushes 1/4 of the time an I need to call 47.83-6-10=31,83$. This is 31,83$/(18,75$+10$+31,83$=60,58$) ~ 1/2
      EV = Equity * (Win + Investment) - Investment
      Money won = FE*deadMoney + (1-FE)*(Equity * (Win + Investment) - Investment)???????????????????
      Money won = 3/4 *18,75$ + 1/4* ( 24,5%*(60,58-31,83)-31,83) ~9,4$????? if investment is also cbet - Money won = 6,6$
If this is correct, cbet/call flop
And vs both of them ... ok time to eat some lunch :D
      Turn: ($18.75, 3 players) 5:heart:
MP bets $8.00, fold, Hero calls $8.00

      River: ($34.75, 2 players) 2:spade:
MP bets $24.76, Hero calls $24.76

MP shows A:spade: 6:spade: (Flush, Ace High) (Pre 30%, Flop 100%, Turn 100%)
Hero mucks Q:spade: A:club: (Flush, Queen High) (Pre 70%, Flop 0%, Turn 0%)
      MP wins $81.27
Posted this hand in Hand evaluation forum. Got to wait and see how wrong I am :f_biggrin:

EDIT: Yes! It was bad play. Needed to check back flop and fold turn :)

      Back to NL25
Ran pretty bad, but it was just a shot :)
One thing I found is - I need good BRM to comfortably play a certain limit. But I think this is normal.
      Played ~1.2k hands, so it's ~8.8k to go :)

"Hit quads, got paid off." [ ] ran bad.

I get your point though, one hand does not a result make!

What BRM will you be using from now on then?

      6,2k hands left
I have another challenge in mind, but that will be for next week. To be honest, I don't like to play just because certain number of hands has to be met. Maybe it's better. If I want to make money in poker, I have to be better then rest of the table, not just grinding for rakeback. :f_cool:

30BI is ok, just when I tried NL50, I didn't have that much. + I never took a shot at FTP, I just played till I had 30+BI and moved up.

won't play much today due to headache.

      $0.25 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players

      CO: $25.90
      BTN: $32.89

Hero checks, BB checks, UTG bets $2.13, CO calls $2.13, Hero raises to $9.00

My plan was to ch/raise/call. If one of them calls I have ~2/3 pot bet on Turn. If they go all in I have ~34% pot odds =call all in

      Board: K:heart: J:heart: 7:diamond:

      CO     35.46%  35.46%   0.00% { KK, JJ, 77 }

My equity doesn't change if it is against one villain.

      Another hand, Quads again :f_biggrin:
      OH, WAIT

I think it's a call preflop. CO is a fish and likely will call as well. And BU shouldn't sqz with complete garbage - bigger chance to stack him if I hit.
