this player was playing back at me after i was stealing quite a lot so i thought i might be able to get some good value here. i guess i had good odds preflop to call. my question is what to do? i know flushes in 3bet pots are less likely, but i still wanted to protect. should i have just called?

      Hello DrDunne,

No need to donk, just let him CB with his whole range. Donk/3betting will just make a lot of hands to fold in those spots and your hand is actually really easy to read.

      Best Regards.

ok i'll keep that in mind! so you prefer a check raise or check call? i think i would prefer to check call since check raising is again really strong.. but then check calling lets him get a cheap turn card which might complete some sort of draw - or at least add some equity to his hand and i dont like that!

Correct, Check/Calling is going to be better option cause he wont have that many draws in his range while he could maybe even hit some overcard later on.
