Reflections after first few days on Party

Just joined Party via PS and am very surprised to find that there are no $1 SnG's other than Turbos. I dislike playing Turbos and generally enjoy playing a 10 or 9 seat regular speed, SnG alongside some cash tables but am unable to do this at Party.

How are players with small BRs (less than $100) supposed to play SnG's on this site.

I should add that for one of the top 3 sites their software seems very old and outdated. No lobbies for SnG's, the main lobby is very bland, and the filters are terrible. Finding any information from the main lobby is very slow and somewhat counter intuitive, I personally find it very off-putting.

For beginning players the Micro limit cash tables seem very tight with very few tables having more than 25% players/flop (I am used to 888 where very few tables were LESS than 30% players/flop and if a table I was on dropped below 25% I was off to a better table!!

I thought I would try the "Welcome Lounge" for new players - that was a waste of time as nobody else seems to want to play there so it was back to the "normal" tables for me.

Having to make some serious adjustments to my game just to break even on these cash tables (which is probably good for my game overall).

Why is it that I can make notes on players but am unable to see these without joining a table ? It makes a nonsense of table selection as I cannot chose a table based on my knowledge of the players (very little as yet but building slowly).

If anyone else has any opinions on these issues please comment. I am looking to get used to this new (for me) site and any extra help would be appreciated.

      Hi Fagin,
I suggest (if you haven't done so already) that you copy the post below, and send it off to Party.

I strongly agree about the SnGs.
I played them all the time on Full Tilt, but I just don't on Party -- and pretty much for the same reasons.

Even so, I do like Party for several reason not related to their software or player pool.

      Good Luck!

Have to agree with you on many of the points. Overall for the #2 biggest site they have so many issues with their software, they got shitty VIP system compared to stars, they got like 30% higher rake and the games aren't even much softer.

Completely agree - the software is outdated. Whilst other sites have moved forward they have really stood still.

      Hi everyone,

We've sent this matter to PartyPoker and as a result of your feedback, they have launched regular $1NLH STTs on PartyPoker.com. These have been put up since Friday morning, and are available in 6 and 10 max versions.

Looking forward to your feedback and keep them coming.

      Good luck!

I will play a couple also.

It's good to know that Party listens to its players

Ahh, the power of Pokerstrategy's voice. Non-turbo micro HUSNGs would be nice as well.

I made my first deposit on WPT today and out of all the days I've been playing poker online (approx a year 1/2), I have never received as many bad beats as I did today on WPT. 6x with AA in SNGs not to mention the countless other times with higher pair to lower pair. I've had 8k hands enter my HUD every day for 3 weeks during High Gear promo and still didn't experience the beats I got here. So unreal it seems...well...so unreal.

Also, anyone who plays micros can forget about ranking on the SNG leaderboard as it's nothing like ipoker's High Gear.

Further to my initial post -

I have just finished a session on Party playing 4 tables of NL4, about 120 hands on each.

Towards the end of the session I had a look at my stats and on average over the 4 tables I was playing 22/15 (VP$IP/PFR). This is a little different to how I used to play at 888 where I would play more pots IP with SC and low PP type hands as there were many multiway pots there.

On Party it seems that a multiway pot is unusual - more than 1 caller for a PFR and somebody will 3Bet big.

A quick look around the 4 tables and I discovered that only 2 players showed a higher VP$IP than me, and I had less than 40 hands on both of them!

This has to be the tightest site I have ever played on and I am having problems dealing with it. I enjoy the looser tables on 888 where if there were 3 TAGs already and another joined I would be looking for another table. Here if there are less than 6 TAGs on a table it is a rarity and almost cause for a PARTY - there are usually 3-6 TAGs in the waiting list mind.

I have tried to open up a little and expand my range, particularly in LP but getting 3Bet a lot from the blinds and very rarely getting action from my bigger pairs (JJ+).

      Any input/advice would be appreciated.

On the brighter side the $1 SnG's are not bad and after 15 I am breaking even so will be playing a few more of them.

I rember the time when fee in SnGs on party was so ridiculosly high that you would need to win twice as much than on Stars and Tilt to break even.

It was so outrageous i couldnt believe my eyes.

Don't have much to add other than that's what my impression of the site is too.
For Full Ring NL2 was OK but NL4 is another world altogether. Strange thing is that NL10 seem to be looser and have more tables to play at too.
I haven't tried that yet though.

Not looked at NL10 as don't have the roll for it as yet. It does seem strange that moving from NL2 to NL4 there is such a huge difference in the tables.

I looked at the "Fast Forward" tables but they are all 6 seat tables and I don't play short handed - too used to 10 seat tables. I even argued against the move to 9 seat tables and still don't understand it.

On 888 I would normally play a $2.20 tourney on a Tues morning. While playing I would generally play a few cash tables and could pretty much guarantee that I would get my tournie buy in back within the first hour or so without too much effort.

On Party it is very different and I have now switched to $1 SnGs and am avoiding the cash tables. I need to work on my SnG game anyway so no major issue there.

So far I have played 55 and am up a whole $4.70 !!! Making 9c a game lol.

Being used to individual lobbies for SnG's it took me ages to figure out the payout structure and rake on these tourneys but I got there at last.

I agree with so many of the above posts!

Partypoker has had obvious problems for years but it's great that they are listening now and you guys have managed to get some of the bugs fixed.

For me the most annoying problem with their software has to be the way you can't see how fast the blinds are on sngs until you buy in and sit down.

      They refer to them as:

      Hyper turbo
      Speed
      Table

I don't play on the site often so I can never remember what these equate to in minutes!

Pokerstrategy... if you can get this fixed too i will be very impressed :)

i am a new member to ppoker.
played on a few sites before. full tilt was my fave till it went down. then 888, but always hated it.
i find that you can't keep comparing this site to previous ones. each site is different. and, should be taken as so.
i can understand the comments on the software side. but, for me. i like the basic style of the site. its easy for me to use. lol.
i'm here to play poker. not animations.
i joined via ps. would never have thought about this place otherwise.
i'm really liking the game here. and have a positive bankroll.
i've had my ass kicked a few times. lol. had some nasty bad beats against me. but, also given out my share too.
my game is getting better every time i play. i'm learning. and i like it. i'm not minding being stuck on the low limits either. i'm making progress. don't want to get out of my comfort zone. when i can play the higher limits. i hopefully should handle them fine by then. but, don't want to jump too soon. so, it's working for me. upto now.
      thanks ps and ppoker.
