I am looking at the hand right now and I don't really understand how could I have ever played it this way ?(

Well, whatever it was that I was thinking doesn't seem to make much sense.

Preflop: don't like the call, especially not knowing all that much about his postflop game + because of our stack sizes. Not sure if 4Betbluffing would make sense either vs him and I also doubt that going broke with AQ here is all that great. Thus should have just been a fold until I know that he is indeed doing it very wide. Then it is a 4bet + probably a call vs a push.

As played: raising the flop makes sense but on the turn I should have just checked behind as there is no longer any value from weaker Ax hands.

Why is there no value from weaker hands on the turn? That guy has a vpip of 50, woudnt he call down a 60% pot sized bet with any Ax?

I'd make the turn bet bigger.
      Easy fold to his raise.

      Hi,

I think you can´t really fold AQ against 52/34 player (even if he is only 3-betting 5%). Since he min-bet I like your flop raise and I would be playing there for stacks. Also I like b/c turn. he can always shove there QQ-TT, Kx and worse Ax hands

      best regards,

Guys, we're splitting with any Ax that is not AK or A5.

Don't people usually minbet/reraise with a rather strong range that wants to induce bluffs?

I also would be a bit hesitant to assume that check/pushing with a midpair of TT–QQ or Kx in this spot is a standard line for most players (although it certainly is not impossible). For that reason I also don't see myself that far ahead on the turn most of the time.

May I ask Veriz to double check my preflop decision? I am not all that sure calling preflop isn't marginal even for these odds vs a 3Bet from a MS about whose postflop game we don't even know much.

      Hello Avatars91,

You should ask yourself in first place what's the purpose of the raise? Obviously if you are raising it should be for value and which should be fine vs the given bet size.

Though what you should be asking the river is that if we can really get from a lot worse hands value there? With any Ax you split anyways. :) Though could be vs trap and might even safer to Check behind and reevaluate the river. Makes quite easy to read his hand once he shoves the river.

      Best Regards.

Just to clarify: it is OK to call vs the 3Bet preflop even vs a MS as long as we are getting such good odds?

as always in poker. ;) Depends on the hand, depends what specific stack, what kind of stats etc.
