because he was playing to win, not make the final table. If he had a read that the people he was shoving into, had tightened up heaps so they make the final table, then he can push very wide. If they are folding everything except premium hands (eg tt+, AK) then he can profitably push very widely and pick up the blinds (which would have been massive by then). maybe ATC on the button against ultra tight SB and BB.

      Hi kiwiboy =)

Most likely he was trying to seduce the bubble. Players tend to be way tighter when it comes to big bubble situations. He tried to benefit from this behaviour and therefore pushed a very wide range having a lot of fold equity. If the constellation is good he can push up to 100% of his range while the opponents won't be able to call due to ICM calculations.

Be aware that this play only works if your opponents know about ICM. If they don't their call will hurt you aswell as themselves while all other players benefit.

You may find further information about ICM in this article:

Unfortunately it is for silver+. Since you don't have this status yet you won't be able to read the article right away. I would suggest to get tracked at one of our partner sites to earn some strategy points. You may find further information on how to earn strategy points in this article:

Alternativly you can buy the desired status in our points shop:
The silver status is available for only 19$ for 3 months. That's a very good offer imo.

If you have further questions on the specific play, our offers, or any other mtt specific question feel free to ask :)

if he was a short stack this should be a profitable play in late position.
if he had more chips then players behind him would also be profitable becouse they need a good hand to call espcially becouse they are playing final table bubble.
he probably have also a lot more money then other players and take adventage of this in this particullary tournament, becouse he is playing for title.
