Hi, I know when your stack falls below 24 bbs or so that suited connectors and small pairs contain less value due to lower implied odds. Does this mean that you should not open raise suited connectors when it's folding to you in late position due to this same reasoning or does position negate this concept? Or perhaps it has to due with what types of players are in the blinds and their playing styles? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

      Hi
24bbs is sss (short stack strategy), not midstack. basically there is no implied odds as your stack is very small, so its almost you shove or fold.
if you are a beginner just stick to mss or sss, learn one at the time and but read both strategies just to get you a feel.

You're talking about cash games man, this is the tournament section. Looking to get some help from the coaches on here when they have time. Thanks again.

      Hi Michael, =)

If you open raise a suited connector from early position you should obviously do it for implied odds. The steal itself won't be profitable in this spot.
Opening from late position is something different. You basically don't open because of your hand, but because of the fold equity and the possiblity to steal the pot. Having a playable hand is just some kind of bonus but not essential.
Therefore you could still open raise suited connectors/pockets from late position with these stacks.

If you have less then 15BB you should always play push or fold.

If you have any further questions feel free to ask!

      Regards,

Under 24bb's you should be folding it up to mp3, from mp3,co,bu,sb you can open raise in attempt to steal the blinds.

If its opened before you then you can re-steal by shoving all-in over their raise. Sc like 67s have really good equity against a stack off range and you'll have about 35-40% equity when called which is enough combined with the fold equity you have. Unless you run into an overpair your equity will be over 40% most of the time.

What ever you do just don't limp in or cold call if opened before you. Thats just throwing chips away.

Ok thanks for the help. How do you know when to go into push or fold mode when there's antes involved? And I always thought this was around 10 effective big blinds and not 15, could you please explain.

Normally you can start pushing when you get to an M of 10 (The M-Factor according to Dan Harrington). That is around 25BB (not True BB).

During the last years the game more and more evolved into a direction where regs tend to open raise longer and start open shoving later. First that point was reached at ~20BB, now it is at ~15BB (considering standard stars structure) which is equil to an M of ~6.

TrueBB's are another system to evaluate your stacksize. It's similar to the M concept but less common.

Of course open pushing very much depends on your personal preferences, the buyins you are playing and the overall tableflow as well as the concrete situation.

i think the best strategy is to fold early, and middle position, and go all in late position with less than 12 BB if the players before fold. with 17-24 you can raise from 2 to 2.5 BB in late if you think that the players behind think that you are not agressive and will usually fold. i would like to make this play when there is a bubble play.

push or fold situaton a is also depense of your opponnets, prizes, buy inns, blinds structure...
