Yes I would bet flop. Not really a bluff bet but more like a protection bet to collect dead money and steal the equity in the pot from de other players (If utg has AJ I don't want him to see any more cards)

      Hello Farmarchist,

As long nobody has shown interest into the pot I'd be betting out and also even avoid them betting the turn with just some high card hand or even hitting something. Our position talks for us.

      Best Regards.

I assume the idea behind checking behind with 99 is that we can still try and induce a bet on the turn from weaker hands as we have less to protect from than with 55, right?
That said, is it not the case that even our 99 is pretty vulnerable on this flop + we can't really call bets that happily on any turn overcards + we can't be so sure that villains are that bluff happy on the turn (especially the UTG as he didn't bet the flop as PFA and we would expect him to, if he indeed was to bluff at any point in this hand)?
I.e., why not just take the initiative and likely take the pot down + protect + avoid getting bluffed + gain a free river card instead of having to face all the disadvantages of checking behind on the flop?

Me bets both. :) As I would also even consider doing that with some overcards which might even have a draw itself here.
