      The time has come!

As much as i dont like to share my toughts and expose myself to the public i feel like this is a must for me to move forward in poker. Its not because i got somthing to hide, no... Im just used to deal with my problems and dificulties by my own and not to ask for help around. Works fine in real life, but not so much in process of learning poker... So, here i am starting my first blog EVER! Im not much of a writer and english is not my main language but i will try my best to transform my toughts in somthing understandable and readable. The main goal is to gather the random toughts and questions i have about the poker and find some answers to them and make some plan how to progress faster in poker and become a stable winning player.

      -) Little about me

My name ir Artūrs and im 22 years old. Im from little country named Latvia. As a hobbys i could mention keeping my self in good physical shape by going to the gym from time to time when work is not killing me and having some freeride with a bike in woods or some downhill road. Atm im working in logging field as a "tree chopper" and doing some management work too, not the easiest job but at least the payment is ok. I was a student of human psychology for a cople of years, but recently gave it up because atm economical situation in my country is fucked up so much that there is no point in getting a bachelors degree, so i chose to get full time work instead. Not going so well with that too... Working just part time, so basicly i got pretty much free time that just motivates me to move forward with learning poker. Not just because i see some decent income here if hard work is invested, i love the game too and like any normal human being i tend to achieve situation in life were i can earn my living by doing somthing i really like. Even now when the economical future seems pretty dark in my country at least for next 5-10 years, i get some extra motivation to push my self a little bit more to use potentional the god(no im not religious) have gave me, to earn some decent living out of playing poker. After all the avarage payment in our country atm is around 700$ PER MONTH and i know i can achieve monthly income like this from poker in a year or so. Sounds good on papier but will see how it goes...

      -) Some poker BIO

I play poker for last 3 years or so... Starded right in to real money cash games on full tilt, basicly made minimum deposits which was 10$ or so and lost them ofc one by one playing games i had no clue how to deal with. I kept paying and sinking money like this for about a year with like total of 100$ lost or so. Started to understand a thing ot two about the game basicly on my own not using any info or guides because i just didnt care that i was losing all the time, i just had some fun.
Then i found pokerstrategy and applied for 50$ BR on WH. It went pretty well for a total beginner because i finally started to read some info i could find here and some more on internet. Even did some 1/3 of a book, dont remember the name, but it was known like a bible for newbies, some no limit book from sklansky and malmuth. I got some real basic knowlage of the game. Went pretty well with that WH BR for a while untill i found some "rulette supersystem" i just HAD to try. I think i dont have to explain more what happened with my BR. :D
After that i moved to Stars, because FT was already down. Still made thouse little silly deposits of 10-20$ but at least now i already had some sense what was i doing. Spent some time like this trying every game to find what fits me more and what could be proffitable. I started to play 6max hypers more. I found my self here profitable on some bigger scale. Did some ICM training from time to time. Dig some info more about how to beat this game and it seems like to start working for me. Havent made any deposits like for a half a year now. Just working with what i got already in there. To summerize last half a year which i am really started learning some for real i have been living (pokerwise) on 6max hypers and been sinking my BR on everything else. I didnt kept my self in some BR management so i droped close to 0 BR for cople times by playing all that i like (tournaments up to 10$ BUI / MTTs / cash games NL5 for like 10k hands / zoom NL5 for 10k hands) (with BR less than 50$ LOL :D ) and lucklly 6max hypers have pulled me out again and again.
So like a month ago i quit this shit and told my self, that i wana give poker a REAL shot! I stoped playing games i cant afford (almost) and trying to keep my self into some BR management to see how it goes. I started at ~10$ BR and strictly stick to 6max hypers as it seemd to be only ones working for me. I did like 600-700 games last month with a proffit around 60$ (sadly i cant add any graphs yet because my HM trial ended and im tight on cash atm to buy one, but will do soon). I was pretty satisfidied, because it felt like a middle points between up and down swings in these ~700 games.
I finally had some little BR to work with. I decided to change rooms because of big volume of regs on stars and lack of rakeback. I was w8ing on FT to reopen with a big hope as i tought it would be flat rakeback, but as it turned out its not... So this nice oportunity u guys offered came out with party poker, so i moved my BR to partypoker, to clear some first deposit bonus there and get some higher status here, so i get some decent learning material.

      -) Goals

Long term goals - end of the 2013 (if we will be alive after the end of the world)

[X] Get stable 1k bankroll by not adding my own money
[ ] Keep alive this blog all year even if noone reads and coments it just to prove myself that i can stay commited for this in long term
[X] Become able to 9table profitably
[X] Get atleast some decent rakeback options (move to room with flat rakeback / get vip level equal of at least 15% rakeback
[X] Stable income for at least 200$ per month for cashing out

Short term goals - end of february

[X] Buy HEM 2 (TOP PRIORITY)
      [X] Buy 28" monitor
[X] Make at least 1 update for my blog per week
[X] Find the main game i will stick to (cash/sng/mtt)
[X] Grow a bankroll of at least 200$ (150$ if i will choose to buy HEM from BR money)
[ ] Study and i mean UNDERSTAND not just read 1 new article / vid per week
[X] Set the goals for next 3 months (march-may)

I strongly believe that i have what it takes to become a good poker player! Yes, i might be lazy and fast going with my temper but i have this gift from the god (or call it waterver u like) i understand things and the way how they work, and when i do, i find the way how to manipulate with them in my favour (in a good way). Since i remember my self my brain have worked this way by constantly analysing anything what happens to me and around me. I have found the answers even for the smallest details in life how and why its like that and not the other way.I believe that with enough learning and proper training i can go pretty deep in poker in a short period of time. I just need to some how get through micro stakes were too many players are unpredictable, to get to the level where the logic and sharp thinking takes place and is rewarded with the results. With the help of u guys i have a real shot here to become a POKER PLAYER! :)

Crucial step in your upcoming career - deciding to write a blog and by that committing your self to constantly improve and not give up.

Had similar ideas going trough my mind when i started mine.

Wish you the very best and i'll be following...

The last week on party poker:

So i moved to party poker with my ~70$ BR.

My first impressions about 6max hypers here:
      - at first i was worryd about trafic for 6max hypers as i 4tabel, but it seems good enough
      - the field seems to be softer than on stars which im happy about ofc
      - rakeback still sucks as i cant get higher than bronze status by playing lowest stakes
      - bonus is clearing pretty fast

Im glad that i am bit up with my BR playing hypers even without hud (as i cant afford one atm and i dont wana steal it). Up about 10$ in ~100games including massive downswing in the middle, like 3 cashes in 20 games straight.

I know i have a massive leak in my 6max hyper game but i cant deal with it atm psychologically - as far as i have understood the game bubble play is the most importand aspect of 6max hypers, and i know i am way too tight. I know why and i know the consequences of that (i end up HU with like 1:3/1:2 dog in chips) and i know i lose huge value here in bigger scale but it tilts me soooo fucking much to lose over and over again on bubble because i end up as the underdog in AI flip, that i just leave my tight range as it is for now. I am winning player after all in lowest stakes. And as i know my leak i think i will fix it when i will be able to play more than 4 tables at once so i dont pay so much attention on each table but just to results on bigger scale. At least thats the way i see it now how i could fix it by not affecting all my game by tilting all the time.
This is the basic push / fold range im trying to use.

Would be really nice if u could correct it if u see some mistake. :)

So, in the middle of the week i got bit bored with hypers. I remembered i had downloaded a nice series of videos for HU hypers a while a go, but as they seemd pretty complicated (made to beat 60s and 100s) i didnt watched them. As i have free time atm, i gave it a shot. It was a pack of ~5h training vids and theory from a guy named chadders. Its a little bit outdated but still, seemd pretty worth investing my time. I went through the theory part and reallized that its way too complicated for me atm (no brainer :D ) because the guy used like 10 different ranges which all needed to be applyd in right spots. still i understood most of that and took the best out of it i could really use in my game.
So i gave a shot for hyper HU sng. in 100 games i was bit up like 2-3 BUI. Felt pretty good. At least i lernt the hands strenghts of HU, what will give me some more edge on 6max hyper HU play. Learnt how to use NASH chart despite the fact that this chadders guy told thats its for noobs and can only be applied below 6-7BB and figured out some 3b shove ranges. At least it was somthing new and i end up with profit and some new experience :)
But it doesnt seems like i wana play HU as my main game.

After my HU thingy i went to check out cash games.
I found that they have special lobby with welcome games, i tought they should be a bit softer than the regular ones, so i gave it a shot despite the fact that the lowest ones are NL4 which is a bit high for my BR. Still as i was little up from my starting BR + i managed to clear first chunk of deposit i was around 90$ in my BR, so i gave a shot to these NL4 games any way...
Did pretty long session, actually all saturday evening because game felt super soft despite the fact 50% of ppl were multitables which could mean they are regulars. Any way, i ran as a hurricain and end up the evening with ~75bb/100 which for me is JUST SICK with a total profit of around 25$.
Gave a shot for same games yesterday, same regs were there, almost no fish (could mean i was the one :D ) but still, most of the regs are pretty loose prefop and pays HUGE to draw, so i managed to get good value of made hands. In general ran pretty bad. Was called on some bluffs (super light) so i told to my self that i will not blff at all, they just call everything. Went couple BUI down with flush over flush, top top on safe boards vs floped sets and so on... A reg even called my two pair AI on turn with his nut flush DRAW and ofc hit his ~18%. What made me reallized, no bluffy bluffy on these tables AT ALL!

Any way im pretty excited because of new room, some bonus to be cleared and the fact im still up with all the bad luck and experimenting.

      Last weeks BR : 72$ > 103$ (1 cleared bonuse included of 7.2$)

EDIT: ouh yea, and i forgot to mention that im REALLY happy that i unlocked PS gold status in just 7 days, that Deposit bonus sure helped a lot. I tought i would have to work super hard to get this, but here i am with gold in just 7 days WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII :f_cool:

Had some free time last days so used it to play a bit!

      Summerizing monday and tuesday :

Played some cash games and some 6max hypers. And as always, was sinking my money on cash games and found my rebound on 6max hypers. I know i should stick to hypers and master them at my limit to be able to crush them for nice ROI but i just get bored too fast to grind them all the time. So i will keep playing cash games too to get some fun and action i need not to get bored from poker :) Hopefully i will find my game style and rhythm for cash games so i can stick with them and move up the limits as i dont see myself as robotic 6max hyper grinder in a long term.

Today had a little session on NL2 cash games, went pretty awesome. Cards were kind to me and brought some nice spots and luckily i managed to get good value out of them. Ended my 300hand session with 11,08$ profit which is huge for NL2 ofc. Lets hope i keep running at least half as good for a while...

Managed to accomplish another short term goal today which i did not mention on opening post- had my vision checked today by a specialist. Glad that my vision is ok enough not to get glases, just my eye focusing muscles are getting lazy from sitting too much infront of computer. So i need to make some regular eye exercises by my own to get my vision focus time back sharper. Will try not to slack on this on... :D

      Hello there!

Because of some recent smaller / bigger things and tought will make a little update how am i doing.

First of all i decided to buy HEM 2 from my BR money, sadly im too tight on my own money that i cant really afford to invest some in poker. Any way im doing pretty fine in poker atm, so i think buying HEM will just burst my progress and is worth my BR money. So 60$ coming slowly but steady from skrill to my visa because for some reason HEM web doesnt take skrill payments. So i guess it might take cople days... :(

As always doing pretty well in 6max hypers, nothing really new to add here. Mby just that i have noticed that since i started to stick with nash chart for HU play, i more often end up loosing heads up. Nash seems a bit too loose in 6BB+ play, but mby im wrong and just not running as good as im used to, since usually i feel some edge on heads up. At least on stars my 1st and 2nd place ratio was like 7:5 in favour to win. (at least when i had HEM to check it)

Have been playing cash games even more these last days, doing pretty fine. Seems like i have found a leak im having for a long time. I didnt find cash games profitable for me because i felt like i cant get enough value out of made hands. So im 3betting preflop waaay more as im used to and seems like its working pretty good. Ofc the big factor is getting payd off with made hand waaaaay more than it was on stars, because of softer field, but still, i feel more comfortable now in my cash games. Ouh yea and i tend to play more tight and less out of position as i feel like this is the right way to play lowest stakes. I found my self too often in spots i dont know what to do because of loose play, so for now i will just try to take spots im comfortable in and feel were im at with my hand and give up my hand in others even if i will lose some value. But hey, its more important to be winning in a bigger scale right!? :)

      BR = 142 - 60 (HEM money) = 82$ (with 1 more cleared bonus chunk)

      Hey,nice blog, will fallow.

Also reasonable goals you have set.
If you decide to stick with 6-max, I could help you out with hu play. Nash is good 8bb and less, but not best idea to use it above.

      HEY HEY

Cheers to thouse guys who wished me luck and is following my progress, hope that u will stay in touch with me through my blog and help me to get some answers to things i am confused with. :)

Will make little update on things in progress and what i have been busy with...

First of all im trying to get my HEM2 for a week now, this process is waay more complicated as it seems if u going the full chain of actions im doing. As im short of my own cash atm, i had to use my BR money, but as i mentioned in post before, i think its worth the money for sure. So i sent my money from party poker to skrill, then it took a while to link skrill acc with my visa, because my visa was totally empty but it required some cash sending to skrill as security action. After i did that i sent my money from skrill to visa... As funny as it wounds, this transaction took a whole week. FINALLY i got my money on my visa today and made a HM2 purchase BUT as it turned out there are some problems too ^_^ I got flagged or somthing and as far as i understand this im stuck somewhere in between processing my CDKEY for HEM2. Money ofc was taken from my visa and i got some email that i have requested a purchase, but support havent replayed to my email all day and no news in HM web acc too. This w8ing just kills! And they wonder why ppl choose to rather steal software than buy it...

Any way, i still hope for the best that SOME day i will get my HEM :D

Another thing that i have been working on is i take a part of this no limit beginner course PS is offering. Just started, will see how it goes, cant do any harm right? :) I hope this will push me a little bit to work more on my game and watch some videos and read some articles which i have been slacking with.

And now a bit about my progress in BR growing - there have not been any recently :D Suffering nice downswing here, without HEM i have no idea how much have i playd cash games and how many Hypers, but im down in both for sure. I find my self more confident in my cash game skills every day i play, but variance have been against me for like a week now. Still trying to stay positive and grind my way through it with pure 6max hypers as i feel i dont tilt that much in them as i do in cash games when getting sucked out. Lets hope i have hit the bottom and im at my turning point to the way up :)

      BR = 82$ > 50$

      Good morning!

The good news is that i finally got my HEM2.. YEY!
The bad news is that i reallized i wasnt adjusted party poker options so it saves all hands not just last 7 days >.< so i have stats just for last 7 days...

Here are some graphs from last week:

6 max hypers graph with my AWESOME run yesterday:graph

And cash graph which is not that bad as it turned out:graph

Also i can share my 6max hypers graph from pokerstars, which is the main reason i see my self playing these in a long term. Not the biggest sample, but i guess its big enough to see that i have a chance here of being a winning player. graph

As party poker is down atm cant fix my hand saving problem, lets hope i will not forget to do that laiter...

      Good evening!

Had some issues with my HEM which i finally fixes and now i can enjoy the beauty of playing cashgame with hud :) Awesome feeling to finally have it again, took down some first spots because of it with some proffit i mighy be missing before. More easy to see loose fishes which calls light and pays off huge.

Had a little session this evening with some nice proffit. Even i had 2 nasty hands were i lost 2BUI with running into quads with full house and loosing with floped set against turnd straight... Still pretty nice proffit which just builds up my confidence.

      session graph

And i would like to post the hand were i end up with a set vs straight. I would like some toughts from you what could i do differently, because this hand felt a bit awkward.

Hm, yeah could easily be a flush draw trying to stop you from betting more.

When you raise the turn, raise more than just a minraise because he's getting pot odds to call with FD when you do that.

seems like badgerer brought some luck here with his optimism, tnx :)

yes i was running bad and getting unlucky all the time, but i felt like something is different with my game, so i tried to figure it out. loosing about 75% games i play on the bubble is not normal no matters how bad do u run... and finally i did, i cought my self being way more tight as i used to be. so, i watched some videos, and guides and tried to balance out my pushing / calling range, especially on the SB bubble play. and seems like im on the right track atm... finally some upswing and hopefully it will stay like this for a while.

BIG tnx to pzhon and CollinMoshman for the great learning material here on PS!

after watching some vids and after that playing only like 150 tournaments i already feel like i have made lot of progress in my 6max hyper game. MUST have to remember to work more on my game not just whine about running bad.

as its friday, going to some party. lets hope i will be reasonable tonight and be able to play some poker tomorrow ^_^

I would like to hear some opinion about the question i have here...

So 6max hypers, opening with my value range preflop when i dont become pot commited by minraising. (basicly staying disguised as i dont want them to 3bet shove)

The question is pretty simple- difference between minraising and shoving. As i understand then minraise is almost always better to induce them to shove with weaker range so i can call, BUT is there some type of hands i dont want to do this, which plays post flop too bad if i dont hit the flop, so i basicly loose some value by not shoving preflop. I guess thats called difference between value shoving range and value min raise - 3bet shove - calling range. But im not sure if i understand these terms right so i better explain my self just to be sure i get it right.

As i understand this, i always should shove small aces and small pocket pairs, but is there somthing else? And please correct me if im wrong.

I hope someone WILL help me with this one. :)

      Time or some update :)

First of all my 6max hypers - have play some and i think im doing ok. Havent made a decent upswing above my zero line yet, but still, at least im recovered from my 40BI downswing and im getting ok rake to clear bonus, so in general im satisfied!

      graph

Another new question has poped up for me - what to do with limpers. In theory if i am in late position or in blinds i should shove with like 88+ and ATs+ (i guess) against one or two limpers, but in reality i find my self dominated in situations like this too often, because ppl tend to limp with premium hands to induce shoves. What are your suggestions?

Another thingy about 6max- i registred 4x3$ hypers this week by accident, as i didnt noticed i had switch to 3$ section instead of usual 1$. I end up winning 3 of thouse 4 tables, was pretty happy about 18$ BR boost ofc. But thats not the point... Ofc my luck here plays a big role that i feel good about 3$`s, but i feel like they have whole different dynamics. I feel like theoretical plays described in videos and articles makes more sense here, like ppl really stick to some theory which allows same theory counter them because of their leeks in it. I guess thats because of way less idiots playing 3$ hypers. I hope i will have a chance to check this in bigger scale soon, as i plan moving to 3$`s as soon as i hit 100BI BR. Hopefully im right and i will feel comfortable there :)

Also have been playing some fast forward just to check it out and feel how it goes and overall vibes there :D up a bit here too...

Situation with my BR - 155$

      This was pretty interesting day.

Been grinding my ass out on 6max hypers. Doing pretty good and getting more comfortable with every session. Hard grind dollar by dollar going up got crushed with a nice downswing in the end of the day. -15BI or so despite being +EV for the session.

      overall 6max hypers

As i felt playing good just getting unlucky, i tought i should take a break and give a shot for 3$`s. Well, i will repeat my self but i like them way more than 1$ hypers for being less dumb and making some sense (as silly as it sounds). Got lucky here and finished this "new water" testing with a profit. So getting some free experience here :)

lets hope my next shot will be as half nice as this :)

Also for some change wanted to play a tournament, and sadly only ~1$ BI tournament in that time was a regular rebuy which stole 4,5 hours of my life, at least i min cashed lol. And ofc in the same time i had fun sinking money in fast forward which cost me 15$. My KQ getting outkicked by AK on KKx x x board... And getting runner runner wheel crushed by pocked 66... FUN FUN FUN!

Still, i know i will succeed in poker... Just a matter of time!!! Positive thinking can do miracles :)
