Should I call river? It's hard to believe he donked and called my raise on the flop with Ace high

      Preflop raising is fine.

I don't get your postflop play.
What is the reasoning for minraising the flop and then checking a blank turn?
Against unknown I prefer calling flop and reevaluating on the turn.

As played, I'd probably fold the river, since I don't think he would play a worse hand this way.
