      I think betting the turn is an option but not for a free showdown. When you bet for a free showdown you assume you also value bet. Value betting is your main reason, the free showdown is an extra benefit.

      In this case I think your hand doesn't have enough value to value bet so I think you have to bet to turn it into a bluff or just check back to bluffcatch when you improve or get immense odds against his range.

      Yup, I would often check back. Most of the river cards that coordinate the board more help your hand as well so you don't give up on all so called 'bad cards' because they actually aren't bad.

      Just noticed one thing now that I previously missed: He limps in SB, raise preflop 100% there imo.
