Hello guys this is my first hand posted here. I'm being puzzled what should be the best line of play on flop and turn. Calling the river was a mistake, I'm fighting with myself on those.

Poker Stars, $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 8 Players

      Hero (UTG+2): $3.28 (164 bb)
      MP1: $5.22 (261 bb)
      MP2: $1.60 (80 bb)
      MP3: $12.39 (619.5 bb)
      CO: $1.97 (98.5 bb)
      BTN: $2.68 (134 bb)
      SB: $4.98 (249 bb)
      BB: $1.75 (87.5 bb)

      Preflop: Hero is UTG+2 with A K
      Hero raises to $0.08, 2 folds, MP3 calls $0.08, 3 folds, BB calls $0.06

      Flop: ($0.25) 9 J A (3 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $0.14, MP3 raises to $0.28, BB calls $0.28, Hero calls $0.14

      Turn: ($1.09) 7 (3 players)
BB checks, Hero checks, MP3 bets $0.28, BB calls $0.28, Hero calls $0.28

      River: ($1.93) 9 (3 players)
BB bets $0.20, Hero calls $0.20, MP3 raises to $11.75 and is all-in, BB calls $0.91 and is all-in, Hero calls $2.44

      $8.32 pot ($0.29 rake)
      Final Board: 9 J A 7 9
Hero showed A K and lost (-$3.28 net)
      MP3 showed 8 9 and won $8.03 ($4.75 net)
BB showed A Q and lost (-$1.75 net)

      Preflop raising is fine.

I'd bet $0.2 on the flop, and when we face a raise and a call I prefer folding.
What's the plan for the later streets here when we call?

As played, calling the small turn bet is good.

On the river calling the small bet is fine, but when MP shoves I'm folding for sure here.

My question - as another beginner's course student is what was MP3 doing? S/he is volunteering a lot of cash to the pot on the smallest pr and a maybe gutshot str8.

Without knowing anything about that player, I wonder what your experience with this player previously had been? Is this someone who typically tries to make top pr fold on a flop without the goods? Do you have previous experience with this person?

JMO, but that was a lucky river and apart from the all-in shove, your play looks like what I would do too -- so I'm wondering what -- if any -- other information there is on MP3 and how we can know when his bluff changes to a real hand.

It's hard to get off top pr, but I get mighty terrified when the board pairs. Then I stomp myself on the foot when folding the best to someone who has taken the initiative away.

Dunno if it's OK for me to post this here but I am really wondering - Ella
