Villains were unknowns, got only 30ish hands on both, they both seem passive

Hand converted with online PokerStrategy.com hand converter:

      Play hand

      $0.01/$0.02 No-Limit Hold'em (8 handed)

      Known players:
      MP3:
      $2.14
      CO:
      $1.08
      BU:
      $3.73
      SB:
      $2.00
      BB (Hero):
      $2.03
      UTG2:
      $2.29
      MP1:
      $2.00
      MP2:
      $2.27

Preflop: Hero is BB with 7, 7.
3 folds, MP3 calls $0.02, CO folds, BU calls $0.02, SB folds, Hero checks.

      Flop: ($0.07) 5, 9, 8 (3 players)
Hero checks, MP3 bets $0.02, BU calls $0.02, Hero calls $0.02.

      Turn: ($0.13) 7 (3 players)
Hero checks, MP3 checks, BU bets $0.09, Hero calls $0.09, MP3 raises to $0.49, BU folds, Hero folds, MP3 gets uncalled bet back.

      Final Pot: $0.31.

was my preflop/flop check good here? thought they might have hit 8 or 9 on the flop since its probably in their limping range and it didnt seem to me I was that strong

Your flop check was horrible, because it was a call :)

Your flop call, though, is okay with a pair and a gutshot, given the odds.

Your turn fold is wise too ;) NH.

EDIT: oh, I'm actually not sure about your turn call...I might have raised there rather than calling. We need to protect our hand. I would raise/fold of course.

PS: "might have raised rather than calling"...sounds so wrong, pardon my grammar.

      Hello,

      Preflop checking is fine.

I don't really like check/calling on the flop. We have just middle pair + gutshot, so our hand doesn't really stand good on this board and I'd just let this go.

As played on the flop, calling the turn bet is fine.
When MP raises I think we can still make a call here, considering we have all the implied odds in the world since I really don't think that they won't stack off on the river.

      Best,
      Plamen
