      Hi! Villain unknown.

Should I avoid barreling spots such as this without reads?
Just seemed like a decent spot for it.

I cbet with my pair & backdoors planning on turning it into a bluff on good runouts.
Didn't think the K helped him all that often & the Ah seemed like a good river for me to barrel in case he calls twice there with Jx.

I guess on this board he can still have some sets in his range as well as KJ & maybe AJ.

      BTN: $16.06 (64.2 bb)
      SB: $23.80 (95.2 bb)
      BB: $24.70 (98.8 bb)
      UTG: $10.10 (40.4 bb)
      MP: $33.23 (132.9 bb)
      Hero (CO): $44.69 (178.8 bb)

Preflop: Hero is CO with 9 8
2 folds, Hero raises to $0.75, 2 folds, BB calls $0.50

      Flop: ($1.60) J 8 5 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $1.10, BB calls $1.10

      Turn: ($3.80) K (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $2.50, BB calls $2.50

      River: ($8.80) A (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $5.60, BB calls $5.60

      $20 pot ($1 rake)
      Final Board: J 8 5 K A
      BB showed K J and won $19 ($9.05 net)
Hero showed 9 8 and lost (-$9.95 net)

      I don't like the 3 barrel

      1) There is a huge difference between JXXKA and 9XXKA. On the first board, villain would have KJ and AJ in his range a lot. On the second, we get to barrel out his 9X or pocket pairs by the River most of the time.

      2) I don't think you should turn your 8X into a bluff. Check back the Turn, and bluff catch on blank rivers. Like if he bets on this Ace, I'm not buying his story (why would he lead river with JX?) I would just call and put him on many busted straight draws like QT Q9 T9 67 etc.
