Hi and welcome to my blog.

After starting to watch the "Champions stand up one more time than the rest"-series I decided to start a blog and report about my progress. I am a 23 year old computer science student. I am playing poker since my regestration date but I always had one big problem. I switched poker variants like nobody else. Every week or so I was playing something different. From NL FR to PLO and HU SNGs. Everything. My best variant by far is NL 6 max and that's what I will concentrate on now. I will start on NL50 for a few k hands and then move up to NL100 because I have to BR for it but I haven't played much NL 6max in the past. I also will play Zoom because I love the fast action and the many hands on just 4 tables. One problem i had in the past was the volume. I would play just a few hundred hands when I was running good because I would just tell myself: "You are up x Buyins, enough for today." This is pretty stupid but that is the way I was thinking back then.

First of all I will write down the things that were asked in the video series:

      Why I will join:
I never had any dedication in my life. I was just getting through everything without ever working hard for anything and so I have gotten so lazy that it is really hard for me to just do stuff. I also never had any real goals in my life. That has to change now! One other problem is my health. I am a little overweight and I always have been. Now I just have read about the paleo lifestyle and as a scientist myself it really makes sense to me. For the people who don't know about it here is a link: Click. I have adopted this lifestyle for like a week and I am feeling good.

      Beliefs I will adopt:
      - Champions stand up one more time than the rest
      - I can achive whatever I want
      - Life is too short to listen to others

      My goals:
      - Become fitter, adopt the paleo lifestyle completely
      - Beating NL100 and moving up to NL200
      - More Volume, minimum of 1k hands a day (NO excuses)

I will try to update daily. If you are interested in discussing hands and/or strategy you can just respond here or add me in the community tool for the skype id. In the next days I will watch part 2 and 3 of the series. But now I have to grind :)
And at the end of the post just a little bit of great music:

Hey here is the first update.

I played a little over 1k hands today and I am up 6 Buyins. Played good and got nice hands + hitting skills :D

Here is the graph of today:

And here are some hand that I have marked. I am very interested in your opinions about them:

      #1

      PokerStars - $0.50 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
      Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

      BTN: $49.75
      SB: $57.15
      BB: $55.06
      UTG: $54.25
      Hero (MP): $98.20
      CO: $116.60

SB posts SB $0.25, BB posts BB $0.50

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.75) Hero has J:diamond: K:heart:

fold, Hero raises to $1.50, fold, fold, SB calls $1.25, BB calls $1.00

      Flop: ($4.50, 3 players) 3:spade: K:spade: J:spade:
SB bets $2.00, BB calls $2.00, Hero raises to $8.00, fold, BB calls $6.00

      Turn: ($22.50, 2 players) 3:club:
BB checks, Hero bets $16.00, BB calls $16.00

      River: ($54.50, 2 players) 9:club:
BB checks, Hero bets $72.70 and is all-in, BB calls $29.56 and is all-in

I raise the Flop because such a small Donkbet on this Board is almost always a weak hand or a Flushdraw. The Donkbetter folds and the BB calls. His most likely hand hand after that line is a Flushdraw, most likely the Ahigh FD. So I bet the Turn big for Value against the NFD or something like Kx or Jx with a FD. He calls again. River now is tricky. It might be too thin of a bet but I did not know much about villain. Hands that he can call with are only Kx hands and I don't know if he is maybe slowplaying something. I just assumed that he never has a Flush because most likely a Flush would raise/shove Flop. So there aren't that many hands I can valuebet against but also not many hands that beat me. I decided to shove because he seemed fishy and fish like to call with crappy hands.

      PokerStars - $0.50 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
      Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

      BTN: $50.51
      SB: $3.58
      BB: $139.69
      UTG: $55.63
      MP: $85.10
      Hero (CO): $50.75

SB posts SB $0.25, BB posts BB $0.50

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.75) Hero has Q:spade: A:heart:

UTG raises to $1.50, fold, Hero calls $1.50, fold, fold, fold

      Flop: ($3.75, 2 players) A:club: 5:spade: 9:heart:
UTG bets $2.50, Hero calls $2.50

      Turn: ($8.75, 2 players) 8:club:
UTG bets $6.50, Hero calls $6.50

      River: ($21.75, 2 players) T:heart:
      UTG bets $16.00, fold

Villain is a pretty solid reg from the first impressions I had. I think Pre, Flop and Turn are standard. On River he bets again big. I think AJ is the only worse hand he can valuebet with and it is pretty hard for him to be bluffing here so I folded.

      PokerStars - $0.50 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
      Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

      BTN: $24.30
      SB: $50.00
      Hero (BB): $77.79
      UTG: $24.25
      MP: $78.06
      CO: $72.29

SB posts SB $0.25, Hero posts BB $0.50

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.75) Hero has 8:diamond: 7:diamond:

fold, fold, CO raises to $1.25, fold, fold, Hero raises to $4.50, CO calls $3.25

      Flop: ($9.25, 2 players) 6:club: 8:club: 3:spade:
Hero bets $5.50, CO raises to $15.50, Hero raises to $73.29 and is all-in, CO calls $52.29 and is all-in

      Turn: ($144.83, 2 players) J:spade:

      River: ($144.83, 2 players) 6:spade:

This was a tricky hand. Villain was unknown but most people fold too many in the CO to 3bets from the blinds so I decided to 3bet. He calls and I flop top pair and cbet. Now he raises and I have to give him a range. I think is deep he is never raising 99-QQ for value because most people are afraid of AA,KK here and only call the flop. He might be raising with draws but he can't have many of them. He almost never has a Straight draw because 54, 97, 75 are so unlikely. The only draw he can have and stackoff with are FDs with Overcards. Another hand he could raise here are sets. But most people slowplay sets here and I also block 88. But I think he is bluffing here really often because a highcard heavy range doesn't hit very well here and I also have a hard time with overpairs. I don't like to just call here to keep him bluffing because every turncard is scary for me and I don't want to give him a freecard that hits his bluff with overpairs. So I decided to shove. He calls and turns around:
CO shows a pair of Sixes
      A:diamond: Q:spade:

I am very interested in hearing your analysis of the hands.
      Good night everybody :s_cool:

      Hi ursusmm

      Welcome to the blog forum!

Somehow I missed that video series, but I just had a quick look and it looks totally worthwhile.

      As for the 3 hands:
Hand 1: I can't count the number of times I hit two pair on a monochrome board and villain had the flush. I play this cautiously now.

Hand 2: I play NL 25, and I don't fold in these spots enough. So much depends on WHO I'm playing whether I fold here or not.

Hand 3: I'm folding on the flop. Probably why I'm still at NL 25

      All the best,
      --VS

      Hey VorpalF2F,

you should definitely watch the series. In my opinion it is one of the best videos here. It doesn't only focus on poker but also on mental parts and motivation. I can really recommend it.

      To the hands:

I think on hand 1 you are influenced by some hands you played in the past. It is really unlikely for someone to have a Flush here and I think Flop has to be a Raise against those fishy players. Because the KsJs are on the board it reduces the flush combos. Hands like KsTs are more likely to be called in that spot than 7s5s and the betsize on the flop just says: "Let me draw for cheap.". I am still not really sure about the river shove but I think there is no alternative to Flop and Turn.

In hand 2 I also used to just call because I have top pair and a good kicker and it would be exploitable if I fold such a strong hand. But nobody will exploit you here. Also his river bet is pretty big which in my opinion polarizes his range in strong valuehands which I don't beat and bluffs. It is pretty hard for him to ever have a bluff here. Even the suited connectors from his UTG range have hit the board. He must be a sicko and turn JJ into a bluff to have a few bluff combos here. But even if that is true that are not enough combos.

Folding the flop on hand 3 might be good against bad players who just think with their 99 there: "lololol overpair, ship it!" or just ship their 8x. It is pretty close because we are a little bit deep. I think c/r Flop might be a good option too because we will often give up this board with overcards. So he will bet his Crap and we can win the pot with a c/r and even something like JJ has a problem if he gets c/r in that spot.

Ok. I will do a daily update later. Just watch some TV now and then grind in a few hands. Gl at the tables but only if you aren't up against me :P

Ok here is my daily update. I played 1,6k hands and I am up 8bb. 3 stacks above EV. Got Flush over Flushed in a pretty big Pot and got 150bbs all in with AK vs AA in a standard spot and flopped the straight.

      Here are some hands:

      #1:
      PokerStars - $0.50 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
      Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

      BTN: $89.93
      SB: $57.36
      BB: $45.35
      UTG: $23.83
      Hero (MP): $92.86
      CO: $30.88

SB posts SB $0.25, BB posts BB $0.50

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.75) Hero has Q:club: A:heart:

fold, Hero raises to $1.50, fold, BTN calls $1.50, fold, fold

      Flop: ($3.75, 2 players) Q:spade: 3:spade: J:spade:
Hero bets $2.75, BTN raises to $6.50, Hero calls $3.75

      Turn: ($16.75, 2 players) 6:heart:
Hero checks, BTN bets $11.50, Hero calls $11.50

      River: ($39.75, 2 players) 8:spade:
      Hero checks, BTN checks

      Villain is a aggressive reg.
Again I have a good hand on a onesuited board. I bet/call Flop because of the small raise size. With that stacksizes I think he would raise bigger with a good hand to get stacks in by the River. So I bet/call and plan to calldown on a good board runout. I would have folded that River.

      #2:

      PokerStars - $0.50 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
      Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

      BTN: $21.44
      SB: $81.09
      BB: $31.54
      Hero (UTG): $99.01
      MP: $57.99
      CO: $100.89

SB posts SB $0.25, BB posts BB $0.50

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.75) Hero has J:heart: T:heart:

Hero raises to $1.50, fold, fold, fold, SB calls $1.25, fold

      Flop: ($3.50, 2 players) 9:heart: 3:club: 2:diamond:
SB checks, Hero bets $2.25, SB calls $2.25

      Turn: ($8.00, 2 players) 7:heart:
SB checks, Hero bets $5.00, SB calls $5.00

      River: ($18.00, 2 players) 6:heart:
SB bets $13.00, Hero raises to $90.26 and is all-in, SB calls $59.34 and is all-in

This hand is vs an unkown. It is pretty standard to the River. The shove on the River might be a little too thin but I think with a backdoor flush the shove is reasonable because he will have a better flush himself less often.

      #3:

      PokerStars - $0.50 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players

      BTN: $53.52
      Hero (SB): $50.00
      BB: $56.34
      UTG: $81.10
      MP: $74.18
      CO: $139.97

Hero posts SB $0.25, BB posts BB $0.50

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.75) Hero has 6:spade: 7:spade:

fold, MP raises to $1.50, fold, BTN calls $1.50, Hero calls $1.25, BB raises to $4.00, fold, fold, Hero calls $2.50

      Flop: ($11.00, 2 players) 5:spade: 8:heart: 5:club:
Hero checks, BB bets $3.50, Hero calls $3.50

      Turn: ($18.00, 2 players) 8:spade:
Hero checks, BB bets $6.50, Hero calls $6.50

      River: ($31.00, 2 players) 2:heart:
Hero checks, BB bets $9.00, Hero raises to $36.00 and is all-in, BB calls $27.00

Hero shows 6:spade: 7:spade: (Two Pair, Eights and Fives) (Pre 23%, Flop 32%, Turn 32%)
BB shows A:diamond: A:club: (Two Pair, Aces and Eights) (Pre 77%, Flop 68%, Turn 68%)
      BB wins $100.50

Here I decide to bluffshove on that river sizing to get him to fold 99-JJ and Ahigh valuebets but I think a turn c/r and then shipping the river is the better bluff line. Villain was kind of donkish so I think a river c/f might be the best play against him. But folding is for pussys. No seriously. I should have just c/f against this guy.

This hand is just for the lulz. Villain is a aggro reg. I must have a great image at the table.

      Hero wins $134.17

Ok, that is it for today. I hope I can play some more the next days but it will be hard because I will have some exams in the next 2 weeks. First is signal processing next week. That stuff sucks hard and I have to do a lot for it. But I don't care. I will just sit down and study hours until I do understand that shit. No excuses. Just hard work!

      Good night everybody!

I played 2,3k hands today. Had some time and grindet a little bit more until I got so tired and did some missclicks. Then i figured I should stop playing. It was a swingy session and I am down something like 1-2 buy ins. Run pretty bad, Aces got cracked everytime, blablabla. I don't wanna cry. It happens. Just move on. I will post a graph once I reach the first 10k hand mark and then every 10k hands. I just don't want to spam graphs in the blog ;)
