      MP: $24.85 (49.7 bb)
      CO: $24.67 (49.3 bb)
      Hero (BTN): $51.10 (102.2 bb)
      SB: $125.47 (250.9 bb)
      BB: $50 (100 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BTN with Q A
2 folds, Hero raises to $1, SB raises to $4, BB folds, Hero calls $3

      Flop: ($8.50) 6 K 3 (2 players)
SB bets $5.50, Hero calls $5.50

      Turn: ($19.50) 8 (2 players)
      SB checks, Hero checks

      River: ($19.50) T (2 players)
SB bets $12.50, Hero calls $12.50

Villain double barelled 3bp OOP 9/18, usually x/folding turn after he misses the double barrel.

I thought my value would come from checking back turn and give him one more opportunity to bluff. Don't think I have that much incentive to protect on the turn given that times that he would be x/calling with a better hand.

Is this a good game plan? If not, when would it be good, or is it always better to take the immediate EV here?

I think your hand is too weak to not take the +EV spot immediately. If you have a gutshot or a pair I would like your play more but in this case, he can bluff river with hands better than yours like 55 for example. The whole idea of bluffcatching is good but you have to consider to have a strong enough hand that doesn't lose often against your villain's range of air and also to beat enough of his bluffs when you get to calling. I've seen many spots when people just forget to account for bluffs better than their bluffcatcher and get value owned in quite a sick way.
