      SB: $2.85 (142.5 bb)
      Hero (BB): $4.02 (201 bb)
      CO: $2.03 (101.5 bb)
      BTN: $2 (100 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with A 9
CO folds, BTN raises to $0.06, SB folds, Hero raises to $0.18, BTN raises to $0.38, Hero folds

      $0.37 pot
BTN mucked and won $0.37 ($0.19 net)

Villain is 21/16 over 77 hands.

Is 3betting here with A9s fine? Or would it be better to raise with smaller suited aces and flat A9s?

I feel like it was perfectly fine to 3bet this, just not 100% sure.

Well it quite much depends on your playing style here and I wouldn't mind both calling and 3betting.
If you think you can play this hand profitably postflop when calling then go for a call, if not 3betting is fine.
