      Introduction

      Hi guys,
i am a student from Berlin Germany and in this blog i will describe my poker career.

I started to play SSS on NL10FR on PP and soon moved up to NL25FR. There i played break even for many hands and there were many SSS Players so i moved my bankroll to stars and played there SSS up to NL50FR.

Then i decided to learn "real" Poker and switched to NL10SH. For the first 9k hands it went very well. 20bb/100. Really nice upswing. The next 5k hands i played on NL25SH. There i had a not so nice downswing :( -20bb/100. After that i didn't play poker for quite some time.

Now i'm freshly motivated and start again on NL10SH on stars.

srohack chose Atoks and me for his free private coachings. And he wants us to make a poker blog. So here it is.

I'm sure srohacks coaching will boost my poker skills immensly. And i'm really looking forward to the next lesson.

I will use this blog to review my sessions.

      Lucky session

Today i had a really great session. I got lots of AA, KK, JJ and AK. I kinda was like wow AA again. In 403 hands i had 5 times AA, 5 times AK, 3 times KK, 2 times QQ and 4 times JJ. So it was a nice upswing session.

      Interesting Hands of the session:

      Hand 1

      PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.10 BB (5 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

      saw flop | saw showdown

      Button ($1.25)
      SB ($3.30) 90/40 10 hands
      Hero (BB) ($13.50)
      UTG ($10.00)
      MP ($13.65) 17/7/1.5/42 158 hands

Preflop: Hero is BB with A:club: A:heart:
UTG calls $0.10, MP raises to $0.50, 1 fold, SB calls $0.45, Hero raises to $2.10, 1 fold, MP calls $1.60, SB raises to $3.30 (All-In), Hero calls $1.20, MP calls $1.20

I squeeze with AA. MP calls and SB pushes his small reststack in the middle. His 4bet is to small so i can only call and not 5bet it.

      Flop: ($10.00) 10:diamond: 9:club: 2:spade: (3 players, 1 all-in)
      Hero bets $10.20 (All-In), 1 fold

At the flop i have only a potsize bet left and i don't want to give a freecard for a possible, though unlikely straight, so i push directly.

      Turn: ($10.00) 7:club: (2 players, 2 all-in)

      River: ($10.00) 7:spade: (2 players, 2 all-in)

      Total pot: $10.00 | Rake: $0.50

      Results in white below:
SB had Q:heart: 10:spade: (two pair, tens and sevens)
Hero had A:club: A:heart: (two pair, Aces and sevens)
      Outcome: Hero won $9.50

      Hand 2

      PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.10 BB (5 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

      saw flop | saw showdown

      Button ($4.40)
      SB ($16.50)
      Hero (BB) ($11.90)
      UTG ($7.40)
      MP ($11.65)

Preflop: Hero is BB with J:diamond: Q:club:
UTG calls $0.10, 3 folds, Hero checks

I don't want to play a big pot OOP so i just check.

      Flop: ($0.25) K:club: A:spade: 7:heart: (2 players)
Hero bets $0.15, UTG calls $0.15

I get the one card draw to the nut straight, so i bet out.

      Turn: ($0.55) 10:spade: (2 players)
Hero bets $0.35, UTG calls $0.35

Great. Got the nut straight. So i bet again.

      River: ($1.25) 4:heart: (2 players)
Hero bets $0.75, UTG raises to $3.00, Hero raises to $11.30 (All-In), UTG calls $3.80 (All-In)

Ok that's great. I have the Nuts and get raised. So i push.

      Total pot: $14.85 | Rake: $0.70

      Results in white below:
Hero had J:diamond: Q:club: (straight, Ace high)
UTG had 5:spade: 4:spade: (one pair, fours)
      Outcome: Hero won $14.15

He calls with a pair of fours and five kicker. Don't know what he was thinking...

      Hand 3

      PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.10 BB (6 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

      saw flop | saw showdown

      BB ($14.40)
      UTG ($0.85)
      Hero (MP) ($10.15)
      CO ($9.35) 29/13 31 hands
      Button ($27.75)
      SB ($14.70)

Preflop: Hero is MP with K:club: 10:club:
1 fold, Hero raises to $0.40, CO calls $0.40, 3 folds

      Flop: ($0.95) 2:club: 9:diamond: J:diamond: (2 players)
Hero bets $0.60, CO calls $0.60

Ok this flop did hit his calling range quite hard. But i have at least a GSSD, so i cbet this flop.

      Turn: ($2.15) 3:club: (2 players)
Hero bets $1.35, CO calls $1.35

Now i have a FD and a GSSD, so i fire a second barrel.

      River: ($4.85) 4:club: (2 players)
Hero bets $3.05, CO calls $3.05

The flush arrived, so i bet again.

      Total pot: $10.95 | Rake: $0.50

      Results in white below:
Hero had K:club: 10:club: (flush, King high)
CO had A:heart: 9:heart: (one pair, nines)
      Outcome: Hero won $10.45

      Hand 4

      PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.10 BB (6 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

      saw flop | saw showdown

      BB ($13.60)
      Hero (UTG) ($10.00)
      MP ($11.90)
      CO ($9.05)
      Button ($1.65)
      SB ($5.45)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with Q:heart: Q:club:
Hero raises to $0.40, 2 folds, Button calls $0.40, 2 folds

      Flop: ($0.95) Q:spade: Q:diamond: 9:spade: (2 players)
      Hero checks, Button checks

Just because it doesn't happen every day. Flopped Quads with QQ. I decide to slowplay here because of his small reststack. I try to give him a chance to pick up something and if he does a bet on turn and river is enough to get him all in. Against a bigger stack i would have bet right away.

      Turn: ($0.95) 6:club: (2 players)
      Hero bets $0.60, 1 fold

      Total pot: $0.95 | Rake: $0.00

      Results in white below:
      Hero didn't show.
      Outcome: Hero collected $0.95

      Hand 5

      PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.10 BB (6 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

      saw flop | saw showdown

      UTG ($9.90) 48/17 42 hands
      Hero (MP) ($10.00)
      CO ($14.35)
      Button ($20.10)
      SB ($9.85)
      BB ($2.35)

Preflop: Hero is MP with Q:heart: A:heart:
UTG raises to $0.30, Hero calls $0.30, CO calls $0.30, 1 fold, SB calls $0.25, 1 fold

I'm not really sure how to play this. I think AQs may be to weak to 3bet here, but seemed to strong to fold it. So i called, though i hate calling in MP...

Is 3betting or folding better? What do you do?

      Flop: ($1.30) 7:heart: 7:diamond: 6:heart: (4 players)
SB checks, UTG bets $0.50, Hero calls $0.50, 2 folds

UTG makes a rather small cbet. Do you raise here with the Nut FD and two Overcards? Or is calling ok?

      Turn: ($2.30) 8:diamond: (2 players)
UTG bets $0.50, Hero calls $0.50

Just call again? Or raise now?

      River: ($3.30) 9:club: (2 players)
UTG bets $8.60 (All-In), Hero folds, 1 fold

      Total pot: $3.30 | Rake: $0.15

I was kinda lost in this hand.

      And the upswing keeps up

Wow the session today was even better than yesterday. I got good cards again and was payed of nicely. Sometimes i was a little bit lucky, but that's poker ;) The biggest loss was 35BB and the biggest win was 200BB.

      SB ($5.80)
      Hero (BB) ($21.75)
      UTG ($10.00) 53/7/1.7/31 236 hands
      MP ($10.00)
      CO ($8.95)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 6:diamond: 10:diamond:
UTG calls $0.10, 4 folds, Hero checks

      Flop: ($0.25) 7:spade: 7:diamond: K:diamond: (2 players)
Hero bets $0.15, UTG calls $0.15

I pick up a FD, so i bet.

      Turn: ($0.55) A:diamond: (2 players)
Hero bets $0.35, UTG raises to $0.70, Hero calls $0.35

I get my Flush. But villain is minraising here. That is often a very strong hand on NL10SH. So i just call, with the intention of c/c the river.

      River: ($1.95) 5:heart: (2 players)
Hero checks, UTG bets $2.50, Hero calls $2.50

Villain bets quite high. Maybe it is possible to fold here?

      Total pot: $6.95 | Rake: $0.30

      Results in white below:
Hero had 6:diamond: 10:diamond: (flush, Ace high)
UTG had 7:heart: K:club: (full house, sevens over Kings)
      Outcome: UTG won $6.65

      Hand 2

      PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.10 BB (5 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

      saw flop | saw showdown

      Button ($12.65)
      SB ($18.10) 63/9/1.2/36 79 hands
      Hero (BB) ($10.60)
      UTG ($5.30) 39/11/1.1/41 109 hands
      MP ($10.00) 50/38 8 hands

Preflop: Hero is BB with Q:diamond: A:club:
UTG calls $0.10, MP raises to $0.50, 1 fold, SB calls $0.45, Hero raises to $2.00, UTG calls $1.90, 1 fold, SB calls $1.50

I decide to squeeze here. I think this is not the best squeeze Spot, because the villains seem to be quite loose and one of them will often call. But i think with AQo it's a value raise here.

      Flop: ($6.50) 8:spade: 7:spade: K:club: (3 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, UTG checks

I think that is a flop that did hit Villains ranges quite hard so i don't cbet it. Against only one opponent i would have cbetted here. I now play the hand c/f if i don't hit something on further streets.

      Turn: ($6.50) K:diamond: (3 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, UTG bets $2.10, SB calls $2.10, Hero folds, 1 fold

      River: ($10.70) 8:diamond: (2 players)
      SB bets $1.20, UTG calls $1.20 (All-In)

      Total pot: $13.10 | Rake: $0.60

      Results in white below:
SB had A:spade: 8:heart: (full house, eights over Kings)
UTG had K:spade: 10:spade: (full house, Kings over eights)
      Outcome: UTG won $12.50

      BB ($13.30)

Preflop: Hero is SB with A:diamond: A:heart:
1 fold, MP calls $0.10, 1 fold, Hero raises to $0.50, BB calls $0.40, MP calls $0.40

I raise AA and get two callers.

      Flop: ($1.50) A:spade: 9:heart: 3:spade: (3 players)
Hero bets $1.25, BB calls $1.25, MP raises to $2.50, Hero raises to $5.65, BB calls $4.40, MP raises to $10.50 (All-In), Hero calls $4.25 (All-In), BB calls $4.85

They both seem to have something, but i got the Nuts on the flop, so i'm glad to get my money in.

      Turn: ($32.40) 6:diamond: (3 players, 2 all-in)

      River: ($32.40) Q:club: (3 players, 2 all-in)

Outcome: Hero won $29.65, MP won $1.15

      nh, i think :)

      Hand 4

      PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.10 BB (6 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

      saw flop | saw showdown

      MP ($13.60) 46/9 35 hands
      Hero (CO) ($10.00)
      Button ($9.95)
      SB ($8.10) 29/19 59 hands
      BB ($9.75)
      UTG ($11.20) 27/16/0.7/28 70 hands

Preflop: Hero is CO with K:club: A:spade:
UTG raises to $0.40, MP calls $0.40, Hero raises to $1.60, 1 fold, SB raises to $4.60, 3 folds, Hero raises to $10.00 (All-In), SB calls $3.50 (All-In)

Nice Action Preflop. UTG Raise, MP Coldcall and i'm 3betting with AKo. SB wakes up with a hand and 4bets.
Let's have a look at the numbers.

If i push and i give me no FE (he has only a quite small reststack), than i can win $10.6 and have to invest another $6.5. That means i need more than 61% Equity. It is very unlikely that i got this much Equity against his range, so pushing here was a mistake.
      Is this reasoning right?

Edit: I think i made a mistake here. If i push my share of the $17.1 is $6.5. So i need 38% Equity. So this push is a marginal one against QQ+, AK (38.8%) and wrong against QQ+ (30.8%). Against a quite loose range of TT+, AQs+, AKo (42.8%) it would be good. So i think pushing here may be ok. But folding is the safer thing to do.

      Flop: ($17.10) 9:diamond: 8:diamond: 2:heart: (2 players, 2 all-in)

      Turn: ($17.10) 6:spade: (2 players, 2 all-in)

      River: ($17.10) A:club: (2 players, 2 all-in)

      Total pot: $17.10 | Rake: $0.85

      Results in white below:
SB had K:spade: K:diamond: (one pair, Kings)
Hero had K:club: A:spade: (one pair, Aces)
      Outcome: Hero won $16.25

But i got lucky and won the pot.

I posted the hand in the PS.com hand evaluation forum to confirm that my reasoning is right:

      Nice upswing there :)

I think squeeze in these limits will rarely get both of your opponets to fold, but it was a nice try, because as we saw none of them had a hand which they should have called with. But it just goes to prove that in these limits squeeze play may be a bit too advanced, in my opinion. But like you said it was a very good value raise.

Preflop: Hero is Button with J:diamond: , A:diamond:
2 folds, CO raises to $0.40, Hero raises to $1.20, 2 folds, CO calls $0.80

He is stealing so much, that i decide to 3bet with AJs. I think this was a mistake. Better 3bet something like 98s, that is not easily dominated here.

      Flop: ($2.55) K:spade: , K:diamond: , A:spade: (2 players)
CO checks, Hero bets $1.60, CO calls $1.60

Not a bad flop for me. I hit my A and he c/c.

      Turn: ($5.75) 2:club: (2 players)
      CO bets $11.50 (All-In), Hero calls $7.20 (All-In)

Now he is pushing the turn and i have a tough decision. I called. But i think this is a clear fold here. He just isn't bluffing often enough in this spot.

      Flop: ($2.40) 4:club: 8:spade: 7:diamond: (2 players)
Hero bets $1.50, BB calls $1.50

8% is something like 77+, ATs+, KQs, AJo+. He may fold OC here as played. Ok to bet here as played?

      Turn: ($5.40) 7:club: (2 players)

I think it was Phil Gordon who said in his little Green Book: I hate, hate, hate to play OOP. And he is definetely right there. I think i shouldn't have called the 3bet here. Let' s see what others have to say to the hand:

      Another losing session

This session was played on 08/29/08. I was to busy to review it yet. I was a bit tired but played some hands anyway. Maybe this wasn't to good for my concentration. The biggest pot lost was a hand were i made Trips on the river, but villain had made his flush on the turn.
I had a quite small VPIP/PFR in this session14/10. My average is 17/15. So i didn't have that much hands that i could play and the ones i played i lost.

Villain seems to call much. So i think it would have been better to just fold here instead of risking to play with such a marginal hand OOP.

TC: fold preflop. It's a mistake to raise here against this villain.

You are right. Don't really know why i betted there. It totally makes no sense at all.

      Trying to play ABC poker

This session i tried to focus on just playing ABC poker and not to move or make a bad call or something. Anyway i made two double barrel decisions that i'm not sure of and that did cost me some money. There were not that much big pots in this session. There was a $8 pot i won and lots of medium pots $2 - $3 that i lost or were i had to give up the hand. So in this session i lost $7 again.

I definitely have to think more about the range of hands my opponent could have and how to ply best against his range!

      Small session, big loss

I played this session on 09/04/08. I think i was again to aggressiv in this session. E.g. i cbetted to much against calling stations. This is a big leak. I have to stop bluffing against players that will call anyway! Additionally i lost two big hands. I'm not really sure if i played them right.

      Trying to stop leaking

I played this session on 09/05/08. Before i played this session i thought a lot about why i lost that much money in my last sessions and decided to play a lot less aggressiv. I played quite tight. I didn't try to steal with marginal hands agains calling stations. I didn't bluff cbet against calling staions. I tried to pick better spots for bluff cbets and tried to make them only on the right boards agains the right opponents. And it somehow worked. ;) I even flopped Quads and got payed with them.
