      Hi all,

I'm having a problem with HM2: Postgresql can't seem to connect. I get this error message:

I've already tried reinstalling it several times but it's still the same. I have also reinstalled Postgresql (password: postgrespass, port: 5432) but the installation can't complete, I get a message saying:

"A non-fatal error occurred whilst loading database modules, please check the installation log."

This is the end of the log file:

      code:
      Loading additional SQL modules...
      Executing cscript //NoLogo "C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\9.2\installer\server\loadmodules.vbs" "postgres" "****" "C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\9.2" "C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\9.2\data" 5432
      Script exit code: 2

      Script output:

      What do I do? Thanks!

What happens if you click the "start service" button in the dialogue?

Are you doing everything as an administrator?

Can you connect to your databases using PGAdmin?

      Let us know...

      Hi Vorpal,

      - If I click "start service" I get the message in red that you can see in the screenshot above, telling me that there was a problem and to manually investigate the problem.

      - Yes I'm doing everything as administrator

      - This is the message I receive with PGAdmin:

      What do I do?

      Thanks!

If there is a "windows" icon key on your keyboard, hold it down and tap the 'R' key.

Windows-R brings up the "Run" dialogue.

      Into that type:
      services.msc

This will bring up a list of all of the services on your computer.

      Find one called:
      postgresql-8.4 - PostgreSQL Server 8.4

In the "Status" column it should say "Running".
In the "Startup" column it should say "Automatic"

If it is not running, right-click it and choose "start".

If you get any errors, let us know.
If it is not even there, it will need to be installed.

If you do NOT have a windows logo key, then what you do from there depends on your operating system. -- eg, XP W7 or W8

If postgresql starts, try HM2 again.
Let us know how it turns out.

      Hi Vorpal,

I'm on Windows 8 x64. I did as you said and the service isn't starting (it's timing out). Here's a screenshot:

The message translates to: "Could not start service postgres 8.4 on local computer. Error 1054: The service did not respond to the request to start in time"

      What do I do?

      Best,

      Let's start here:
      http://forums.holdemmanager.com/manager-general/20526-postgre-sql-error-1053-when-starting.html

That is a thread from the holdem manager forums that covers this.

Follow all of the instructions in the post from fuzzy.

      Let us know what happens.

I notice that you have two versions of postgres installed.

try stopping the 8.4, and start the 9.2
      Then see if HM2 runs.

I managed to resolve the problem. In the end I uninstalled 8.4, ran the combo installer (HM1 + postgresql), uninstalled HM1 and reimported all the hands. (I had problems installing 8.4 by itself)

      Hi, outspan,

      Great news!

      I'm glad it worked.

The combo installer you mention says HM1 -- is that correct?
Is there no combo installer for HM2?

      Thanks,

I couldn't find a combo installer for HM2, but the one for HM1 is here: http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/38/PostgreSQL+Install

      Thanks!
