      I think checking down is fine with 88, betting the flop is also fine. With a stronger hand like TT-KK, I would prefer checking a lot more, because these hands have more showdown value, and are less vulnerable with fewer overcards which could come on later streets.

      With a weaker hand like 44/33/66, it's closer to a bet because your hand becomes more vulnerable and also because you can potentially fold out some stronger pairs.
