      Hello,

This is my first post on the forums :) I am a winning player on FR 25nl zoom. And i want to take it to SH 50nl zoom, but before i do that I took a break from poker to evaluate my pokerskills, and i am focussing on now on the theory and my leaks.

I found that I call to much 3 bets, both in and out of position with a lot of hands. This cost me a lot of money, but what surprised me most is that it cost me also a lot of money with big ace hands, like AK or AQ. Also i lose when i 4-bet them. So my question is this, is it normal to lose money in 3 bet pots with big ace hands? I have a lot of examples, but here is one like many others.

Poker Stars, $0.10/$0.25 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 9 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

      BTN: $267.13 (1,068.5 bb)
      SB: $13.92 (55.7 bb)
      BB: $33.76 (135 bb)
      UTG+1: $34.23 (136.9 bb)
      Hero (UTG+2): $34.87 (139.5 bb)
      MP1: $82.11 (328.4 bb)
      MP2: $14.28 (57.1 bb)
      MP3: $34.76 (139 bb)
      CO: $18.16 (72.6 bb)

      Preflop: Hero is UTG+2 with K A
UTG+1 folds, Hero raises to $0.75, MP1 raises to $3, 6 folds, Hero calls $2.25

      Flop: ($6.35) 3 2 4 (2 players)
Hero checks, MP1 bets $4.75, Hero raises to $12.50, MP1 raises to $79.11 and is all-in, Hero folds

      Results:
      $31.35 pot ($1.41 rake)
      Final Board: 3 2 4
Hero mucked K A and lost (-$15.50 net)
      MP1 mucked and won $29.94 ($14.44 net)

      Hi.

      A few things first

      1. You are supposed to lose money when you call 3-bets. Just that you should lose less money than when you fold. Let's say you open to 3bb and call a 3bet to 9bb. You should on average, lose less than 3bb after calling (meaning out of the additional 6bb you put in, you should win more than 6bb back)

      2. Same applies to 4-bet/calling with AK. If you are facing a shove, you are expected to lose money vs a tight range of QQ+/AK. Cos AK only has 40% equity vs such a range. However, your profit comes from the times he folds to your 4bet and you pick up the 9-12bb.

      Does this help?

I think it's misplayed. Idon't see any reason to check/raise here and if you do, you should not fold. I would treat this as a semi-bluff. You are ahead against other unpaired hands and draws, and you have decent equity here against a hand like QQ/JJ.

Anyway I prefer just check/calling here. Checkraising just isolates you vs the big pocket pairs in his range.
