Poker Stars, $0.08/$0.16 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players

      SB: $42.04 (262.8 bb)
BB: $14.97 (93.6 bb) Seemed really good fish
UTG: $14.97 (93.6 bb) Somewhat recreational
      MP: $16.77 (104.8 bb)
      CO: $5.71 (35.7 bb)
      Hero (BTN): $18.95 (118.4 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BTN with 9 8
UTG raises to $0.48, MP calls $0.48, CO folds, Hero calls $0.48, 2 folds

      Flop: ($1.68) 4 9 A (3 players)
UTG checks, MP bets $1.04, 2 folds

Was considering squeezing. UTG`s fold to 3bet is 67% over small sample. MP`s fold to 3bet is 65% over really good sample. Opinions?

As played, once MP leads out we can easily let go our 2nd pair?

      Hey gAsheks,

Given the statistics you mentioned, don't really think this is the best spot to squeeze. If you are going to squeeze here you might aswell at least stick to high equity hands with blockers. 98s is going to play ok multi-way in position with good implied odds so I would flat preflop.

Flop is close. I don't think a call is ridiculous. Don't think a bluff-raise is totally out of the question either. Folding is fine thought and probably the standard option here.

I usually use hands with blockers, but are there any cases when we can use such hands for squeezing?

Yeah, it's totally fine to squeeze even in this spot with 98s.

The reason I say it's not the best spot to squeeze is. 98s will play ok in position in a multiway pot. Something like AJo suffers from reverse implieds and won't play so well. It also has blockers which should improve your direct fold-equity.

So it's not a case of 98s is bad to squeeze and AJo is bad to flat. It's simply a case of using the right hand for the job.
