      Hello!

My name is Pedro Madeira and im a professional poker player. I am 24 years old and was born in Brazil , country that I live atm. I have been playing poker for the last 6 years , comming from the fixed limit cash games to high stakes mtt , wich I play nowadays.

During this 6 years I went to university, mechanical engineering , but never graduated. I did not finish my course simply because I was not interested in it. I just do not see myself working for a company , every day from 8am to 5pm , picking up my kids at school , go back home , kiss the wife , watch the news and go to bed. That`s the main reason that led me to quit school and become a professional poker player. Combined to that is my love to be free , travel , see different places and meet different people ( during this school time I took a 1.5 year break and went to USA and Australia to study business. ) .

Altough Ive never graduated I plan on doing it . So here is the main point why im writing this blog. Despite of being a professional poker player for two years ,ive never dedicated myself entirely for it , having school to go and other business aside. Therefore I decided to take this first semester of this year only for poker , playing both live and online, traveling te world.

So here I will post some experiences , hands , feelings , everything related to my poker lifestyle during this time.

btw , I play as gusmaa on Stars .

      cheers,

      gusma.

      A nice start

The year already started well , not pokerwise but lifewise . Right after christmas , me my cousin and some friends took ours cars and decided to drive from our city , Belo Horizonte , to Pratigi , where there would be an amazing music festival , the Universo Pararelo :

A map of the distance we had to drive:

The trip did not start so well , as during the way , due to the horrible roads in Brazil , we had 3 flat tires and a 12 hour trip took us exactly 24 hours ;(
Despite all that troubles we kept going and finally arrived in heaven:

view from a boat they set at one of ther stages

my two friends and I at the main stage

      home sweet home

      the whole crew

So we stayed there untill the 2nd. I came back home to start the grind and my friends went up to Morro de Sao Paulo.

      Just freaking awsome!

      Following a great blog. :s_cool:

What FixedLimit taught/teach you more for MTTs?

Leaks that you find in the NoLimit players? (I play NL5 BSS SH&FR.)

      Hi alonohara!

I believe that fixed limit help me out alot concerned to the math of the game , since the game is just math. And also related to the post flop game, since we alot of the times have to go to SD with bottom pair or even A high.

The biggest leaks I find in NL players are concerned to the math of the game , even the simple ones as odds , but mostly ev calcs, wich are in theory the same ;)

      Its not all flowers

The year did start very well in the poker scenario. In the first sunday of the year I shiped the 22c on stars for ~ 11k , and got a few other ok results. But as in every real life history it was not all flowers ( as we say in Brazil : "nem tudo são flores " ), and my graph went down as a roller coaster

But yesterday I thought all would go back to be flowers again as I was deep in the big 11 with only big fishs at the two final tables. It was the FT bubble when I was dealt this hand

      [PokerStars - $10+$1|40000/80000 Ante 10000 NL - Holdem - 5 players
      Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

      Hero (SB): 2,206,574
      BB: 2,815,972 (VPIP: 22.64, PFR: 18.87, 3Bet Preflop: 14.29, Hands: 54)
      UTG: 6,150,743 (VPIP: 24.44, PFR: 20.00, 3Bet Preflop: 11.11, Hands: 45)
      CO: 2,729,998 (VPIP: 14.75, PFR: 6.61, 3Bet Preflop: 3.23, Hands: 122)
      BTN: 5,712,935 (VPIP: 37.50, PFR: 22.45, 3Bet Preflop: 9.68, Hands: 154)

5 players post ante of 10,000, Hero posts SB 40,000, BB posts BB 80,000

Pre Flop: (pot: 170,000) Hero has J:diamond: 8:spade:

fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to 200,000, BB calls 120,000

      Flop: (450,000, 2 players) K:spade: J:heart: J:club:
Hero bets 157,500, BB raises to 480,000, Hero calls 322,500

      Turn: (1,410,000, 2 players) 2:spade:
Hero checks, BB bets 800,000, Hero raises to 1,516,574 and is all-in, BB calls 716,574

      River: (4,443,148, 2 players) 3:diamond:

Hero shows J:diamond: 8:spade: (Three of a Kind, Jacks) (Pre 25%, Flop 26%, Turn 18%)
BB shows J:spade: Q:diamond: (Three of a Kind, Jacks) (Pre 75%, Flop 74%, Turn 82%)
      BB wins 4,443,148

      Analysing:

The big blind was a huuuuuge fish. He was playing 24/19 with 14 3bet on 55 hands. I had the note that both for bluff and value he always bets big amounts ( nothing so great ).

So ok. I raise pre and the flop comes ... "FUCK YEA , Im rich now" that was exactly what I thought atm.
So i value bet the flop and get raised. Here I do not see him doing that with less than hands like a GS as T9,AT,Q9 or QT. But we can also have KQ , KT and of course Jx and a few times a pure bluff. Therefore I do not see any big reason to 3bet as I can make him fold Kx and his bluffs.

Turn is a total blank that does not change anything , so the ideia is to c/r here as he can call me with worse now , as his draws and prob Kx.

Unfortunatelly he had me and GG in 10th.

Today I will take a break from online and will play love live cash.

      cheers!

Today I played a hand that at the beggining did not sound that interesting but after some analysis I turned out to be.

      No Limit Holdem Tournament
      8 Players
      Hand Conversion Powered by weaktight.com
      $200+$50+$15

      Stacks:
      UTG (3,220) 161bb
      UTG+1 (2,960) 148bb
      MP1 (3,000) 150bb
      MP2 (3,000) 150bb
      Hero (CO) (2,950) 148bb
      BTN (6,210) 311bb
      SB (2,880) 144bb
      BB (3,000) 150bb

      Blinds: 10/20

      Pre-Flop: (30, 8 players) Hero is CO A:spade: 5:spade:
      3 folds, MP2 raises to 60, Hero calls 60, 3 folds

      Flop: A:diamond: K:heart: 9:club: (150, 2 players)
      MP2 checks, Hero bets 75, MP2 calls 75

      Turn: 2:diamond: (300, 2 players)
      MP2 checks, Hero checks

      River: 5:club: (300, 2 players)
      MP2 goes all-in 2,865, Hero goes all-in 2,815

      Final Pot: 5,930
MP2 shows three of a kind, Kings
      K:spade: K:diamond:
Hero shows two pair, Aces and Fives
      A:spade: 5:spade:

      MP2 wins 5,980 (net +2,980)

      Hero lost 2,950

As I am a math fan I did some calculations and the result kind of surprised me.
Knowing the result , as the vilain does it with KK , I can suppose he also does it with AK . Since he did not value bet the flop with this monstes , I will also assume he mgiht not do it with AQ and AJ.
On the river , considering we wont put me on a big hand , por not even an ace , I def think we will do this crazy shit with all his values as AA,KK,99,22 and 55 also with AK , A9 , A2 .
Therefore at the river I do have an easy call :

      http://www.pokerstrategy.com
      Board: AdKh9c2d5c
      Equity Win Tie
      MP2 60.86% 60.86% 0.00% { As5s }
      MP3 39.14% 39.14% 0.00% { KK+, 99, 55, 22, AJs+, A9s, A2s, AJo+, A8o, A2o }

And even if he does not have hands like AJ , the call is quite close , once I only need 47% equity , not considering the bounty:

      http://www.pokerstrategy.com
      Board: AdKh9c2d5c
      Equity Win Tie
      MP2 45.16% 45.16% 0.00% { As5s }
      MP3 54.84% 54.84% 0.00% { KK+, 99, 55, 22, AQs+, A2s, AQo+, A2o }

As a conclusion , even that right after the call I thought I was wrong , it turned out to be that the call is mostly +ev .
