I'm not sure if this would be better in another forum, if so feel free to move mods.

I'm an SNG player but I am considering playing some live cash poker at my local casino. I imagine the game is fairly soft as where I live is a tourist destination and the casino is right by the sea.

      The game I'm looking at is a 25p/50p game ($0.41/$0.82) it's a fairly short buyin (50bb max) and it's 15% rake. I don't know what it's capped at but I imagine about £3.

As an SNG player i'm particularly comfortable at 50bb so it's not a problem for me personally but I understand this has an effect on how beatable the game will be. Equally, I don't really understand the effects of the cap etc. I know it works but beyond that?

There are a few games in town, the next up is 50p/£1 10% capped at £5 with a 100bb max. This is probably out of my bankroll for now but in the future perhaps.
Speaking of BRM, is BRM the same for live as online? I understand it's standard to have 20-30 bi for cash, is this the same live?

      Hey pauln

I only played live once, so I can't really comment on the BRM matter. I just had some fun at the Casino.

Where I played it was a nl€200 game with a max BI of €400. The rake is 5% and is capped at €20. This means that every pot above €400 will also be raked €20. So it looks like the rake over there is SUPER high. I don't know if it's really profitable to play those games, I guess you'll have to wait for someone with more experience in live cash games.

      Best regards

Ok that makes sense, yeah it seems like the rake is fairly steep.. I may have to wait a bit before my bankroll is high enough to play £1/£2 games. Not the end of the world!

When I played live, i never played below 1/2 exactly because of ridiculous rake ratio in most casinos. You will also hardly find any action below NL200 anywhere. So, yeah, I recommend you to start experimenting in live games once you have bnr for NL200, but let's also see what other people say because I didn't play live for a year or two already. :)

      Best of luck,
      Fran

Some Casinos I have been to offer "Rake Free Tickets" to the first 1-3 people to sit down at a table. This is to try and get the games started earllier so may mean you have to sit and wait a while (just watch a film or something).

Perhaps you could phone up a few locals and see if they offer this, then you can play any stake and have pure profit :D
