      i go broke preflop with AKs against a ~midstack

      You are first to act post flop. And you are going broke on every hit or big draw, but you don't have any stats (5 hands is nothing)

      Against QQ+,AKs,AKo you have 42% equity
      You need 47,1% BE (with rake)

      So shoving here pf against unknown is to much with almost no dead money.
      On the flop I thing you can do anything else.

      Against unknown middlestack I like to go 4-bet/call pre-flop.
      AKs would miss 2/3rd time and often you have to c/f flop.
      And if you hit your A or K and other player has QQ/JJ then he´d probably b/f flop and fold to any futher action.
