First of all, are you asking us about specifically casinos where people play vs the house and are destined to lose money in the long run, or do you want us to assume that man-vs-man poker (a game that is profitable longterm for the best 20-30% of players) is a casino game too? The thing is that 'multiplayer' poker is played in casinos too, and the Playtech software (of the iPoker network) I play only such poker on is actually called 'casino.exe' (it has 'casino-in-poker' but allows to disable casino links, which I do). Many people here play poker and only poker for a living, but if we all write that we 'gamble' online 50-100 (some even 200) hours a month, your bosses' heads will explode :f_biggrin:

I know that you play poker and are aware that it's a +EV game for some, but still had to ask for the clarification because online surveys of this kind are often ill-advised and seldom make the dinstinction.

      Done.

I think that the survey would have been helped by including a listing of games available online and live, and having the respondents select which games they play in each environment.

games like poker and backgammon which have a strong skill component are still gambling, but the risk is manageable by the player.

Slots, dice, roulette etc leave no room for players to manage their risk.

Blackjack gives the player a very slight margin within which they have a small amount of control.

Best of luck in your studies.

Hi tonypmm, I understand your point and what you said is true.
But I've designed the survey for a large audience, basically all the population. I know poker cannot be considered as simple gamble but I'm not doing the distinction here. The survey is more about the way of playing than the games themselves. One of the purpose of the study is to prove that land-based casinos are not only gambling venues, as some people are going only for a drink and won't put any money in the games for example.

I'm aware that the respondants from pokerstrategy are focussed on poker and don't represent the general population, I will take that into account in the results. I came here to find respondant more aware of the differences between online and land based casinos, and have probably played on both. If I ask people randomly in the street it will be very hard to find some who actually play online. But in another hand I need non-online specialists that's why the survey is not very specific.

Hope I made it clear, I'm not sure lol (and English is not my first language)

I finally found time and remembered to do this for you both at the same time!

      Regards,

      Mal.
